My situation is that I have a solid x58 gaming rig in the dining room which I can use without feeling any guilt etc. However I recently gave my htpc a makeover with SB and a gtx 560ti but barely seem to use it because im such a caring and thoughtful husband lol!!

This lead me to ask how does your front room tele get shared considering you may have a gaming htpc/games console fighting for screen time with a tivo packed with 1tb of corrie?!!

Well I paid for the TV so it's mine.

She has her own that she chose not to bring to our new flat in London and i've offered to get someone to bring it up from her parents house. So all she gets is her laptop lol.

football win's in this house if its on i get to watch , i dont play our xbox much or watch anything else so tv becomes her's 95% of the time

lol deleting her recordings is just not worth it- besides im just too nice todo it! the worse thing is if I say 'im just gonna game in here if thats ok' she just agrees even if she does'nt really want to! maybe a rota is in order.....

I'm in the same boat as the OP although my wife actually uses the HTPC in the front room for playing various games, in fact she's in there now playing Lego Harry Potter!

I have considered upgrading the lounge PC as it's still only running an old Core 2 and a 8800GT, but I won't bother until she starts complaining about stuttery gameplay

It doesn't bother me at all though, as whilst she's playing in the front room it gives me a very good excuse to get some gaming time in on the 'better pc' ;)

she can have the tv, its crap i just buy it and pay the subscription

she leaves me alone when i game then

Do this.

New house = new setup :)

Here's an overall shot:

And now the individual sides..

My Side:

The Gfs Side:

The reason for 2 sides is so I can game or watch stuff while she can game or watch what she wants too.

I'm happy with the way it is right now.. was gonna invest in 5.1 but my gf doesn't like noise much and I have a pair of Astro A40's so there isn't really a need :)

Gear:

2x Samsung 46D800's
2x Peerless Manhattan 1200 Stands
2x Xbox 360's
1x Kinect
1x Sky+ HD
4x Samsung SSG-3100GB Glasses
1x Astro A40 Mixamp.

1TB of Corrie is quite some backlog. I'm not sure how these new hard drive-based video recorders work, but are the videos in a PC-playable format and can they be exported to another disk? Once the offloading is done, you just got to negotiate with your wife on viewing times. Like you get 2 hours at a certain time of the day and she gets 2 hours. Since you paid for the telly, you need to get the ball rolling otherwise she'll take advantage of the situation.

The wife has primary use of the living room TV when she is in. If not then ts all mine. I have my study with my gaming PC and 27" iMac should I want to either watch media or game. Upstairs we have a second TV room/gaming room with consoles and so on.

However thanks to iPlayer and the others as well as NetFlix my good lady spends a lot of time watching stuff on the laptop in bed at night.

One TV connected to a set top box and consoles is bound to cause problems in a relationship!
