Getting christened today

I thought christening a child was a gesture made by the parents of the child to 'show/prove' they would bring the child up as a christian with christian values and morals. I dont see how this applies to an adult?

no, it's because the bible says that only baptised people can go to heaven. (e: or that is some interpretation of it)

therefore some denominations say that children/babies will only get into heaven if they have been baptised.

so really, it should have more significance as an adult, because you choose to do it. as a baby, you know nothing about it.

The op is just doing this to get married in a church. :/

At least if you're gonna get involved with religion, do it for the right reason - i.e. because you believe in it.

I threw a cup of water in my own face and found Jesus. Worked out cheaper in the long run.

Have they not told you to bring some trunks and a towel?
When adults are baptised they have to walk into a small pool and bwe dunked under.
Our church blows a small paddling pool up for adults.

Depends on the denomination. Baptist and methodist churches do full dunking ceremonies. My brother got baptised at about 14-15 in the local Catholic church and he just stood with his head bent over the font while the priest poured water on his head, like he would with an infant baptism.

Well that's me done. Was actually a really nice service. He got me to stand up in front of about 80 people and asked me to make a load of promises.

We then went over to the font and everyone crowded around and he splashed water on my head and said some nice words.

Regardless of peoples views on religion, including my own, it was a bloody nice morning and I feel more connected now to the place I'm getting married at. That's important to me.

So let's not get busy and start bashing religion, I dd it for my own reasons and Now I get to marry a fitty and get smashed in heaven with the 'G' man.

Booyah.

Just ask them if you can have a dry run, get the priest to pick up you up and pretend dunk you.

You don't want the church full of people then work out that you are actually too heavy for the priest to pick you up and dunk, then have him drop you head first on the floor.

That sounds like the biggest mockery of baptism I've ever heard.

Sorry, but it doesn't sound like you did it for the right reasons at all.

I know we weren't supposed to be getting into a religion debate but I think if that's your reasoning for doing it... Well, I can't really say any more without ranting I don't think.
