If askMID says my car is insured, is it *definitely* insured?

Right, sorry for this but I'm in a rush and I don't know what's going on.

I keep my car at my mums house (as I don't use it very often at the moment) and my renewal period has just passed. About a week before hand I rang up elephant to change some details, specifically the address it's registered to (now my place in leamington) and the payment card.

My mum said the policy docs had been sent to her address, which I thought was odd. I come to collect them tonight, and take the car out on another hour + trip and discover it's a generic 'it's your renewal soon' letter with the old info on.

I've checked all my cards, and they don't seem to have taken any money from me, but when I check on askMID it says my car is insured. I can't ring elephant to check because they are closed. Can I trust this 100% or am I just gonna have to take my motorbike instead? *sigh*

I'd just take the motorbike just to be on the safe side. You can ring and find out when they're open.

It's probably a bit late now but when was your renewal? The MID updates overnight and sometimes it can take up to 48 hours to change vehicle details on there so if it renewed today I wouldn't want to risk it!

I got insured with Admiral a few weeks ago. Waited a few days and no money had left my account,it wasn't listed as insured on AskMID even though it should have been. I didn't drive until it listed it as insured as that's what the police go off?

I called up to query why it wasn't and the chap says it can take up to ten days for the money to come off and he did something(I think) and the car was listed as insured the next day. Not sure if it was just a coincidence though.

If you definately insured your car and it still doesn't show on askMID, don't worry it can take a few days to update, that doesn't mean you are uninsured though. Just carry your certificate of insurance with you in the rare event you get pulled.

When I renewed my insurance with Elephant last year my car was showing up on AskMID as not insured for 3 or 4 days and they did not collect payment from my card until 3 days after the renewal date.
