Hello all,

First post and i think it is in the correct section :)

I am planning on building a Budget PC, ~£300-400 and i would like it to be Intel :) I won't be doing any hardcore gaming, if any it will be very light :)

Here are my plans so far:

Case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-057-OP&tool=3

Motherboard: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-483-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

Processor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-366-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1671

Power Supply: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-034-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

HDD (not confirmed): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-364-WD&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=1664

RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-095-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

DVD Drive: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-101-SA&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=

Wireless Card: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-014-OK&tool=3

Sorry for all the links :)

if you have any tips or suggestions then please tell me :) if the tips/suggestions save money then i may consider a graphics card :)

oh and by the way, the budget is slightly flexible :) also, the budget is just for the PC, windows and other software is not included in it :)

Thanks,
Cam

Avoid that wireless card - I've had two and they've given me nothing but problems.

Also remove the competitors links or staff will unleash their wrath etc etc.

And I suggest you go for the 2*4GB kit of hyperX grey ram as it's around £15 more expensive but you'll get a good 8GB@1600mhz to show for it.

fixed the links :)

about the RAM, im not sure i will need 8gb to be honest, not at the beginning anyway, i could always upgrade right? but I will make sure it is on my priority list for upgrades within my budget :D

Wireless card, any recommendations? are TP-Link ones good?

I will have a look at cases, i just liked that one coz it had LED fans :P but i suppose thats just a gimmick :) Whats so good about the BitFenix one? does it have more compatibility? as far is i can see, the OCUK one seems better as it comes with all the fans? correct me if im wrong :D

If you want reliability - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-043-AS&groupid=46&catid=1597&subcat=

It's more expensive, but worth it if wireless is a must. Is wired not an option?

And you wouldn't need 8GB, but soon when average games start eating up more you'll need it - and prices will most likely rise soon.

About the case, it's more about build-quality and materials used. Bitfenix are known for good quality cases. You could always grab a few LED fans from the cooling section - they're pennies.

Or try the LED ram.

Wired is possibly an option, as i could ask my dad if he could run it outside, he doesn't like it going around the house :/ If I can't have wired, then i will get that card :)

The RAM is on my list, I will most probably get 8gb anyway :)

I do like that BitFenix one, it looks awesome, i will get that one :)

The LED RAM... I think i will just get some normal RAM and get some LED fans, if i want the LED fans, im thinking it will make the computer look cheap :/ What RAM should I go for, DDR3 Dual Channel PC3, but which number: 10666, 12800 or 14400+?

What do you guys think about the PSU? is it a good one?? are there any cheaper options that may be better?

Also, would that CPU be any good for overclocking? if so, what to?

I had the same thing with my latest build (17, and live at home student) and I managed to convince my step-dad to drill a few holes in the walls and stuff to get the cable up to my room. It was worth it.

Case-wise, you can always tell people its part of the Fred Perry exclusive limited edition computer case range. ...Cheeky but funny:rolleyes:;)

I have a few LED fans in my PC and to be honest it looks cool. As long as your case looks nice, the fans will do too.

Ram I'd go for 12800. 10666 is limited to 1333mhz, and 1600 is where it's at! The HyperX grey 8GB or the ballistix sport 8GB is what i'd go for.

PSU I'd avoid the builder CX series as mine (and plenty of others it seems after googling it) make a whine/buzz noise which is really annoying. Check out this.

For a overclocking processor you're going to want the 2500k really, but that's quite abit more than the i3-2100. Also I'd check out the 2120 as it's £5 more than the 2100 but has abit more punch.

No graphic card ?
I believe the motherboard has a HDMI port, and the CPU has graphics built in, a graphics card is definately something i want, but my budget may not allow! but i may squeeze it in anyway :P

I like that case, it is now the one i am going for, i am also going to get some decent LED fans to go with it, just need to decide on colour :)

I think i am going to go for the HyperX grey RAM, and i will go for the 12800 :)

The PSU you have linked is on my list, little less money too, makes up for the RAM and Case :D

I will check out the other i3's, i have also heard awesome reviews of the i5 2500k, some people have got them to ~5ghz apparently :O Thing is, the OCUK website doesn't have many i3 CPU's tbh, but i will have a look :)

Thanks :) Any other recommendations?

Also, do all the components come with the required cables? does the motherboard come with the cables that go from the PSU to Mobo? or are there any i need to buy?

If you are planning on using the on-chip graphics, I recommend going for an i3-2125 instead of 2120. It has a far better graphics component, the HD3000 instead of HD2000. The HD2000 is basically a HD3000 with half of the chip disabled!

But thats like saying something that is crap is slightly better than something thats crap.

HD3000 is all kinds of awful:p

Ok then, i will go for the i3 with the HD 3000 graphics and i will upgrade to a better card in the future :)

Get a i3 2100/2120 with the HD2000, the HD3000 is crap, the HD2000 must be crap, you really wont be missing anything between them:D

Ok then. I might go for the faster i3 then get a graphics card later on :)

Thanks for the help, i have seen a 450w coolermaster psu for 29.99 am i still better off getting a 500w or will the 450w be ok? Should i stay with the 500w encased i upgrade?

Edit:
Oh didn't factor in postage so it's quite abit over the £400 mark...

That looks great, i prefer the vantage case tbh :) Is the Asus board in my first post as good as that Gigabyte one? is it worth going for the Asus? i think it has more PCI slots etc...
I am guessing the cheaper PSU will be fine :D

Thanks for the help, i might adjust the list to the Asus board and a WD HDD and i reckon that will be it! :D What do you think?

The HD2000 is half a HD3000, so a HD3000 is half as crap ;) Given that the 2120 and 2125 are pretty much identical apart from the graphics, you may as well get the slightly better IGP!
I think i am going to get a graphics card now anyway, so it doesnt matter :)
