Living in Exeter, IP is in Plymouth?!

This may seem like a dim question, but I've just checked my IP address and it's saying I'm in Plymouth, but as per the title, I'm here in Exeter.

I thought maybe this would be where the exchange may be, but it seems odd to have it so far away.

Any ideas?

it's not your actual location but rather where the IP is registered by your ISP.

It's a good thing anyway isn't it? Means people can't stalk you to your hometown via ISP tracking... Of course, unless you want to be stalked :eek:

It may not even be that accurate.

My IP comes up in Arnold, Nottingham.....250 miles from my house, and 150 miles from my ISP and 146 miles (in the other direction) from where the IP address is actually registered.

Go figure.
