Any idea how long the celebrations last? I'm in Beijing on Sat/Sun/Mon.
 
Happy Year of the Dragon

Mum and Dad are away for it this year but be sure that next year, like last I will be there bugging the life out of them until they give me 'Lai See' and I'm in my 30's...such a child!!!

They've calmed down quite a bit tonight but the car alarms and dogs are still going crazy. I believe that this week is all holiday, so it should be back to normal by the weekend. Bring a coat though, it's a bit cold here!
 
No one has been able to tell me what my fortune will be this year, I'm a Fire Dragon (Born 1976) and being a year of the dragon i thought it supposed to be a cracking year for me, but apparently it doesn't look so good!

I'm an earth dragon ('88) so apparently the water doesn't really do much to me. But the above analysis does not apply to my girlfriend who is a fire rabbit - she definitely does not give away her energy to me :p (I think the unbalanced one-child families has done its bit to reverse the historical analyses!)

Actually the fireworks will continue right up to Lantern festival (06 February). The official national holiday is only 3 days (23rd, 24th, 25th) although most places will be closed for the whole week (22nd to 28th).

I was very nearly stuck on my own in Beijing on 22nd - had just landed back in Beijing airport at 4pm, but missed the last airport shuttle bus back to my city by 10 minutes. Rushed to Beijing long distance bus station only to find it closed. Then to Beijing central station where I managed to get a train to a nearby town, and got a taxi to the place where I live. Finally got back here just after 9pm!
