Hi guys, going Egypt Makadi Bay next week, for 7 nights.... 5 star all inclusive....

Any hints of places to go and recommended excursions?

Before anyone says about food we are vegetarian so that might limit things but the hotel has a few restaurants that are included in the price so hopefully they will do.....

Thanks

Think they have some big old pyramids there. They look quite impressive :)

If you were going for longer I would have suggested learning to dive. Just go snorkelling instead and you will be amazed by the wildlife!

Have fun and stay safe

I went to Sharm El Skeikh in summer 2010. I know this is a compeltely different part of Egypt but be very careful about germs. The money in particular is very dirty.

I got the runs from the day after I got there through to a week after I got home. I don't just mean the runs, I mean full on runs with awful belly ache in my lower gut. I destroyed the airport toilets in Egypt on the way back several times, and on the plane, and back in Manchester airport.
Prior to this I had not had the runs before in my entire living memory.

To be honest you need an alcohol rub to clean your hands before anything touches your mouth. I know it sounds like I am being OTT but if you are not careful your holiday will get ruined.

You're looking for tips, not hints ;)

Don't have really have any, sorry. Enjoy the holiday though!

hints, tips, tricks, the works :D

Was wondering about the all inclusive, that includes drinks, am wondering still buy some bottled water or not for night time drinking when in the room etc? Also for brushing teeth with.....

Will do, heard about a submarine excursion, not sure if that is any good?

we went to the Makadi Palace about 4 years ago ( the better part of the Makadi Palace/Grand ) complex, was a great hotel then as it had just opened but apparantly has really gone downhill

thb there is very little to do in the area, you can go into Hurghada but that is nothing special, desert quad biking was fun

I love Egypt, been 3 times and would live in Luxor given the chance.
I went to Hurghada last year and it's basically Blackpool with the sun, not really for me.

Trips:
While in Hurghada make sure you go snorkelling and visit Paradise Island.
Cairo day trip visiting the Giza Plateau (Pyramids) and Cairo Museum.
Luxor day trip visiting Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple and Valley Of The Kings including Hatshepsuts Temple.

Tips:
Wash or gel your hands before anything goes in your mouth.

Thanks for the info.....
Do you guys know any companies that do excursions off the net?
From a quick search in a really old thread I got memphistours.com
Any others?

Seen the submarine excursion, desert quad biking and the others mentioned..... May do the Luxor one, not sure on the Cairo one?

Definitely will wash hands a lot more, cheers.....
Also from the other old thread I read if you get the runs to get the green and yellow tablets from a local pharmacy..... Noted :D

Personally for me going there is all about doing Luxor and/or Cairo. I guess it depends how interested you are in it all. I really liked Egypt I just didn't like the Egyptians. I'm sure they aren't all bad people but so many of them are poor and I hate all the following you about trying to sell you stuff thing.

Definately agree with this but then I guess from the fact you've booked a week long all inclusive that your not really going to see the culture and history! Personally I would have gone multicentre and done at least a night in Cairo and a night in Luxor.

Wash your hands or use anti bacterial gel all the time not just before eating do it everytime you touch the money it's filthy and just rubbing your hand near your mouth can make you very very ill in Egypt!

I got to Sharm a lot - some 30 odd times since 2003.

Most of the people who get dodgy belly are more often than not dehydrated rather than suffering from food poisoning and the like.

Make sure you drink a lot of bottled water, and don't drink/brush your teeth with the tap water.

What do you guys reckon about the mosquitos? I got some protection but just wondering being winter in Egypt that I am guessing there will hardly be any?

Last day of work today, flying out tomorrow :D

I was in Alexandria with work in January a couple of years ago and didn't have any problem with them.

If in doubt try and get some jungle formula or anything with 50% Deet.

KaHn

Cool cheers....
I didn't pack the jungle formula, got some more milder stuff at 30% deet so was hoping that would be fine.... Also got some room sprays to spray when going to sleep....
