*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'm not surprised at all by those Sorcerer numbers. I mean, if you had the choice, would you roll the side that has the cool armour, semi-interesting companions and throws purple lightning around or the faction that dresses like hobo's, hurls dirt like a four year old and has a pacifist sidekick who disagrees with every pro-active solution you try?

Not to mention as of chapter two, the Consular story is, well, a bit arse.

The only animation that's better on Sorc is the main Sorc Lightening it looks better then the pebbles - everything else the Sage is better though imo.

Project (although as the delay compared with shock) is so much better, and at least the Sage is varied - the Sorc is just lightening, lightening, lightening - the saber stance is not as cool either, nor is the shield.

In my opinion of course :)

Sorc -> Sage - no question about that.

The problem is that in the Star wars universe there are no "famous" sages or troopers people can relate too.

Sith Warrior = Darth Vader.
Sorcerer = Emperor.
Bounty Hunter = Bobba Fett
Agent = Ok, nobody here .. oh wait, least played class.

Jedi Knight = Luke
Sage = ?
Trooper = ?
Smuggler = Han Solo.

Let's face it,

Vader, Emperor & Bobba Fett are all cooler than Luke & Han.

Even the armour for the empire side looks better most of the time, English accents (preferable to listen too).

It was always going to be unbalanced.

Perhaps a 50% commendation boost (PVP, Warzone, Quest commendation, Heroic/raid) then reduce is as the populations even out - perhaps switch it from 10% to each side once balanced on a weekly basis (to encourage alts).

My 3 level 50s are bounty hunter, sith assassin and the most recent an operative. The latter of which was leveled to see what all the fuss was about and I can honestly say the recent nerf announcement is totally justified. But in saying that the sustained dps of the class leaves a lot to be desired.

The assassin is darkness spec in full champion gear for pvp and t2 pve gear despite having -23k HP using just stim pack still feels squishy in pvp but takes a while to down because I have on average 8k HP more than most.

My bh hasn't been played much that was my first char originally powertech tank but recently went advanced prototype dps while is pretty fun but versus the operative in pvp its no contest which one I prefer to play.

Now the operative. Ieveled this char up as lethality enjoyed it immensely, at around level 43 I decided to give concealment a go and well never looked back the difference between it and lethality is like night and day. At level 49 in the warzones with orange gear using purple level 49 mods I was dropping most people with the opening 3 attacks often seeing numbers in excess of 4k with hidden strike followed by 2.5k backstab 2k Shiv and finally 2k lacerated. That's around 10k damage not counting the dot from acid blade. Yes it was extremely fun and said from day 1 of being concealment spec a nerf was guaranteed and totally justified.

Excuse typos etc typing on tablet :)

The sage my be influenced by, but look at Yoda & Obi-Wan.

They both look nothing like a sage & don't use any abilities that exist in the game in any of the films - if you compare to how they actually act/fight they are closer to Guardians both of them.

Single 1 handed light-saber, use of force jump, push etc.

Im having some issues with FPS in Warzone's and Im wondering if anyone here has experienced anything similar and has any advice.

My GPU is a GT555M, laptop CPU is i7-2670 with 6GB RAM.

Im running SWTOR at 1600x900 with all graphics options set to low except "character detail". AA is off. Vsync is off.

Outside of warzones I get anything from 35-70 fps with zero slowdowns.

In 8 v 8 Warzone's with plenty of action on the screen, my fps drops to as low as 10fps. Sometimes it feels like lower but Im too busy pushing buttons trying to get any ability to activate to get an exact number.

Would this be an issue with the game or my PC?

I had an idea it might be related to that nVidia feature (forget the name) that flicks between dedicated GPU and onboard GPU to save power. however, my laptop is always plugged in to the socket, and it seems odd that behaviour would only affect warzones (and not other aspects of the game).

So Ive kinda ruled that out.

Any constructive advice appreciated.

The third tree “lethal” never seemed a good choice to me. Point of an OP is to heal or stealth and mix melee. So, the two left trees are the obvious choice. My OP 100% healing, should try concealment to see what the fuss about!

Edit: My merc seems OP in PvE to me. Can AOE most grps in almost one skill using Death from above.

My understanding of lethality is that it should have been the "ranged" spec for operatives, all the abilities dictate this, corrosive dart/grenade are both 30m range, yet in order to use the high damage attacks you had to be in melee range to generate TA's. Imho Weakening Blast should have been a 30m range and generated 1 TA, this would then open up the class being a ranged DPS class, so you would have 3 totally different play styles. As it stands, Lethality requires the use of shiv which means you must be in melee range and if your gonna be in melee range, well you might as well spec concealment because it does a crap load more damage when your up close and personal.

I played around with my graphics settings a lot and performance got worse the more I did:(

Set them back to default (most things on high i think it was) then turned shadows off... game plays far better than when I tried setting things to low\off... Not sure how this works or why, but maybe worth a try?

Btw, tried using RandeonPro (to force AA).

Works much much better than CCC, I can add X4 AA, 16 AF, tripple buffering and -3 LOD texture drawing,

Makes the game look so much better & hardly impacts on performance - most people can push X2 AA x4 AF tribble buffering & LOD -3 with only a 10% reduction in FPS (if that) - I'd recommend it.

Yup, I made a substantial post about using Nvidia Inspector as well.

It really works much better than the ingame settings.

Here's what my game looked like before Patch 1.1

Forcing AA with Radeon Pro and Nvidia Inspector is far better and less of an impact on performance.

I've got x8 FXAA x16 AF + LOD -3 and the game looks and runs better.
At 2560x1440 on a Single GTX 470 (stock speeds)

The only time I take a performance hit is on vegitation heavy areas like Alderaan, although that could easily be sorted by dropping the AA to x4 probably.

Now we just need Bioware to reimplement the High res textures. Apparently people in the beta had much better performance with them prior to release. When Bioware removed them from gameplay and implemented Graphical Atlassing.

I still think this game must be terribly optimised for ATI cards - when I put it upto x8 FXAA x16 AF I drop right down to 25/30 FPS (anything below 50 is unplayable for me now).

How you do x8 FXAA x16 AF + LOD -3 @ 2560x1440 on a Single GTX 470 (stock speeds) boggles my mind :P.

I'm running an over-clocked MSI 6970 @ 920 2gb (16g RAM) & a i-5 2500k @ 4ghz

For some reason 4 to 8 AA seems to destroy my frame-rate in this game.

I can run battlefield 3 at higher settings & smoother than TOR lol.
