7990 in March could be £800 ! Start Saving

Really?
Wasn't below my expectations, 7970 owners on OcUK or most of the reviewers on the internet :confused:
Before release we had months of slides showing it outperforming the 6990 and decimating the 580, yet it came in below that. Obviously it's still faster than anything out there but with its relatively high price - certainly in comparison to the 5xxx series - it's wasn't an instant purchase for most people on-the-fence. I'm really waiting to see how the 7990 performs and how much it will cost, as I feel my 5970 is getting on a bit - potentially it will be a decent replacement but I'm not interested if it costs upwards of £700 and even then performance will be critical.

Read my post again:
Simply adding "my prediction" onto the end of "the 7970 will be forgotten about due to the nvidia releases whiping the floor with them" doesn't negate the certainty with which you made the statement. Obviously it was a "prediction" given that nobody knows how it's going to perform, as even nVidia won't know the final specs until the yields are known. My point wasn't that you were wrong, just that you were making bold assertions without any justification. I don't mean to cause any offence - I just wish that people would be more objective in their statements.

Remember it came in on low clocks for a less than 300w TDP. Overclocked it destroys the 580 and compares with the 6990.

I got one for £416, and tbh it's reasonable considering prices of other high end cards on release day.

The disappointment came when it didn't repeat the 5870 being 70% faster than 4870 at stock and was 50% more cost. Agree it is a beast when overclocked.

Absolutely. The overclocking headroom seems to be incredible, though when it comes to overclocks it's easy to perform a bait and switch at a later date as it is not guaranteed. We've seen plenty of occasions when reviewers can achieve incredibly overclocks but regular users typically get nowhere near the same levels.

I think the 7970 is a great card but I do think it is overpriced. I'm just hoping the 7990 comes in at around £650-680, as that would make them quite an attractive proposition.

If you don't like the prices blame Nvidia.

Yup, you read that right, blame Nvidia.

Go and find a 3gb 580 for less than £430.

It's quite clearly obvious where AMD came up with their price. They shouldn't have been able to should Nvidia have slowly dropped their 5 series prices, but they haven't. They have had the price at the same now for so long I can't even remember the last time they dropped in price.

And that is what happens when you have one camp having a commanding lead, and why I find it hilarious that people are sitting here hoping Nvidia will come along and smash AMD to bits with their new cards.

If they do (and fair play !) they will be super, uber expensive and the prices will not drop until AMD can respond and come up with a faster card. Sadly though they can't just do that overnight and thus we could end up with stupid priced cards for close to two years.

And people are cheering it on? LOL. LOL for about ten minutes.

Fair price for 7990 would be current 7970 price, they are damn overpriced as it is today considering the lifespan of GPUs today.

At that price no thanks, both companies need to get real with their pricing. Who in their right mind buys these cards to play mostly xbox ports. You can buy a reasonable pc for that money and still play xbox ports.

The sort of people who build a PC like yours.

Looking at your sig you built that PC for one reason, to play games on it. Otherwise your sig would list a Pentium G620 4gb ram and so on. Not massive power supplies, overclocked CPUs and a 5870.

Yes maybe I did, my whole setup cost maybe £1600.00 but my point is that my range topping at the time 5870 was get this only £330.00 not £420 +. Gpu pricing is getting out of hand. If, when invidia bring out their topline gpu and it's faster than a 7970 them how much more are they going to charge ? Bet it's going to be more than £500.00. We shouldn't be paying those sort of prices for a single gpu card. Mid range cards used to be around £200.00 not £350.00 like the 7950 will most likely be, that's my opinion anyway.
