Blizzard are looking to recruit a Franchise Development Producer for their “next-gen MMO”, with one of the main responsibilities being to “work with major consumer brands to facilitate product placement and licensing within the world of Blizzard Entertainment’s next-gen MMO”.

Although perhaps this reveals something about the game - real-life brand ads wouldn't fit into a medieval setting, so it must be real-world or future scenario?

if such a thing makes the game free to play then i dont really care. most likely modern or future setting otherwise it would be competing directly with wow.

What was that mmo that let you order from pizza hut within the game?

Everquest I think? If its functional like that then I don't see a problem, seeing a character walking past wearing converse high tops might be a bit jarring though.

Yeah i'm pretty sure it was Everquest.

The only thing I can picture when I read the OP is a blade-runner style dingy metropolis, neon signs etc. That or some kind of second life game.

I cant wait til they release some concrete info about it though, its going to be their first new IP since Starcraft, wouldn't imagine that they'd skimp on it.

Certainly raises two very realisitc theories. Free to play and real world or future. Can't see them going subcription based again, especially from seeing the success of LOTRO going F2P. Medieval (or the traditional MMO) has been done 1000 times over. I think they'll want to differentiate this one as much as they can. And with Activision being their counterpart, it looks likely.

If this was proposed by EA or Ubisoft people would be foaming at the mouth at this. But because it's Blizzard people will backtrack.

This is all Activisions doing I bet. God I hate Bobby Kotick.

Anarchy Online has billboards in it's cities with adverts/product placement on (for films, food and occasionally other games), been a long time since I've played it but it didn't seem intrusive at the time.
