What plugins are installed on the server? Just want to know so I can use them for my own small server for some friends
Main ones you'll want are:
LogBlock, Spout, WorldEdit, Lockette, VoxelPort (if teleport nodes are needed), AdminCmd and bPermissions,
i noticed that, im posting mine tonight.
are we aloud to have builds pretty close to spawn area? i.e. walking distance?

Missing from the above list 'myHome' gives nice home functionality, AdminCmd only has very limited home options. The OcUK server uses 'myHome'.

Another good one is 'TeleConfirmLite', this was previously used on the OcUK server but the author abandoned it, it has been since rewritten. Again this gives superior functionality and control than AdminCmd's teleport options.

If you have a few people the BarterSigns plugin can give a nice economy aspect. Would be nice to see this added to the OcUK server as we built a market area at spawn for it.

Good spot.
Though tbh if you're just playing with friends then I'd probably stick with AdminCmd as the functionality offered by MyHome is more suitable for public servers like LinkTart.

The main reason for the recommendation is that if your friend is offline you can't /home to theirs as AdminCmd has no shared home or invite facility that I'm aware of.

I may be imagining things but I believe if you have the right permissions that you can teleport to other's homes. This is more of an admin/op feature than a normal player thing though (possibly not a problem on a private server).
The other suggestions you've made are good too
Had a roam around the server this morning, some staggering buildings guys. Blew my mind the amount of the time and dedication taken to build some of this stuff.
Stumbled across the home teleporting, came across the round fortress in the North-West of the map..was pretty blown away by it.

the build move of for free moves unless you have donated
Only donators get to choose location of build on new map
once it is not in someone elses plot.
free build moves will be put whenre an admin finds a good spot.

As long as you don't destroy it in the process, then I am fine with you building there XDSorry its probably about 6 or 7 years since I was a member here. I will just have to stick around for a bit and hopefully you will let me in, you could check out my server though if you like (although it is 1.1) and ask some of the people there if I am trustworthy.
