Looking for some advice on airbrushes, I'm just starting out, would like to use them painting scale models etc.

Now I think the Iwata Neo seems ideal for a beginner.

What would be a suitable compressor, that is not too expensive or big?

Any airbrushing tips would be much appreciated too! :)

Thanks in advance.

Iwata are a really good brand IMO, if you're looking for scale model painitng i would reccomend using acrylics thinned with a little water (until it leaves a residue on a bottle like milk does) only because its so much easier to clean afterwards. I used to use enamels but even with airbrush cleaner its difficult to get anywhere inside the brush to get it out.

As for a compressor ive always used a cheap one off the bay, never had a problem with it and bear in mind you dont really need to go above 25psi, I rarely use anything over 10psi as it atomises and you breathe loads in aswell as getting horrendous overspray.

you're going to need to be more specific about what kind of tips you need, theres so much to learn once you get into it!

I can recommend buying a cheap package from ebay, using it a couple of times, not cleaning it very well so it clogs and then never looking at it again. Worked for me.

Thanks, I was looking at lacquer paints + thinner, are these the same as enamels? I assume they are? I have been looking at paints on plamo.co.uk if anyone has any experience of them.

really depends what you are painting to be honest, lacquers can be easier to remove from the brush than enamels but you'll still have to use some nasty solvents to clean it, and im not sure how well lacquers will layer as they are quite thin. If you need vibrant colours i'd go with the citadel minatures (warhammer) acrylics, they are great and give great coverage and you can get pretty much any colour you want.
