Hi guys, not long had this 580 so not even played any games past few days cause i've been in London.

now, I come home today with it installed and decide to play a game of Skyrim, however I get a pretty nasty screeching/whining coming from the card. It's not the fans as i've tried it with them off and still the same problem.

I have also tried the psu connections etc swapped them all around and it's the same.

It ONLY does this on load, if for example i'm walking through skyrim it will be whining but if I pause it, it stops?

I have the latest drivers, clearly works fine as the settings on ultra and it runs perfect, also a 7.9 on WEI (not that that will count for anything. :p )

It's quite annoying any reason as to why it may be doing this?

What PSU do you have?.

There are a lot of people who have this problem and there are ways of fixing this problem, just google it.

I had this problem with my gtx 580, my psu at the time was a antec 650w, i then brought a corsair hx1000W and my whine sound went :).. could try it in another pc or try it with another psu to see if that helps?

or

Try enabling v-sync and see if that helps.

I have this with the odd game, not very often though, I did read its something to do with capacitor whine and is usual with some graphics cards

Yeah upon reading heard it's not really anything to worry about, just worse on some cards than others.

I just enabled vsync and now it's non existent on css, still there abit on Skyrim but I think I can live with it, thanks. :)

If I spent £300+ on a video card and it had capacitor whine, back it would be going.

Is it possible to RMA for something that is not actually affecting the performance of the card, though?

gigabyte Super OC if anyone knows what they're opinion is on cap whine.

If nobody replies to your question here, contact Gigabyte and ask them. You've paid a fair amount for the card you have so if something is bothering you then tell them. If I went and bought a TV, set it up at home then on turning it on there is this uncomfortable buzzing that is bothering me. Packed, car, shop then refund or exchange. Good luck. :)

It's not the capacitors. It is impossible for a capacitor to make sound.

It is the coils. Basically they buzz. And, apparently it's caused by the PSU not delivering enough power or the capacitors before them aging.

Try a different PSU first.
