Ministry of Sound to close? Your help would be appreciated

"London Mayor Boris Johnson is about to grant planning permission for luxury flats opposite Ministry of Sound. If built, these will force our iconic 20 year old club to close, with the loss of hundreds of jobs. "

Why will it have to close?

Why will it have to close?

Because residents in the hypothetical apartments are guaranteed to complain about the noise and have it closed.

I'd say let the flats be built... but make sure they're built by contractors who understand that the club won't shut down if the apartments go ahead.

Not a chance in hell of that happening though :(

Meh, they can relocate. Housing has a greater priority than 1 club. It is a shame, though I'm sure it's probably MoS being quite selective with their choice of words, that the flats are 'luxury' ones as oppose to being affordable housing options which is something this country desparately needs.

Won't they close and reopen somewhere else if this goes ahead? If they are so popular and iconic I can't see them not doing this.

I'd have thought that people would know what's opposite if they move into those flats. In fact, they might be avid clubbers. :p

A 2 minute walk home from a club would indeed be pretty sweet!

Worst thing about clubbing - being knackered, hammered/off your head and trying to get home in the wee hours. Haven't done it for years and probably only go once a year if that (and only if it's an 80s night or something)!

Ahh memories of being off my face to Happy Hardcore...

Yeah those flats would be priceless to the right people :P

A mate at uni had a flat in Camden about 2 minutes walk, rich mofos! Nice place to crash out.

I remember when similar things were being said about Fabric, they managed to sort it in the end.

I'd be surprised if ministry of sound did close, I'm sure that they could relocate to somewhere if they needed to

Drama queens much? I don't understand why they can't just relocate.

I don't see why they should have to. Also, there's a lot of identity of an organisation in the building in which they inhabit. Would the natural history museum be the same if they relocated to a different building?

Gatecrasher in Sheffield had a similar problem when they built a load of student flats 10m away from the back fire exits. They kept going unimpeded though for a few years until it eventually burnt down.

After it burnt down they were looking for other good city centre locations, but couldn't get planning permission due to jobsworth councillors views that it couldn't be anywhere near residential properties.

Hence, no more GC in Sheffield, further helping one of the biggest clubbing brands in the world along on it's descent from the jewel in the trance genre's crown into a cheesy, commercial abomination.

Proper shame.
