This may sound stupid but when you use the price comparison websites you don't have to own the car right?

My parents want to get me driving but I wanted to find out what it would cost to insure something that is considered a "classic" to see if it would be cheaper than insuring a normal hatchback.

Can I just enter my details and get a quote for a random car and then decide not to pay for the quote after entering all of my details?

Don't want to be bombarded with spam from different companies.

Sorry for the noobish questions.

Thanks.

You don't have to pay at the as the sites provide quotes, as to whether you get bombarded with calls, yes you will but for me this year it's not been as bad as last year in that I've only had 1 phone call to date.

Most insurance quote sites give you the opportunity to enter the registration number of the car if you do own it, or drop down boxes to select from any other car if you don't own it, and are just doing speculative quotes.

:)

if its your first car, and you have no NCB from being a named driver avoid comparison sites, unless you can afford there 10-30k quotes.

try co op young drivers insurance if you around the age of 18, try quotes for a 1.4 golf, 1.9 306 and a 1.6 focus. Or a 1.1 106. I got less that £1700 for all of the above, and £1300 for the 106

I got called by a salesman 20 mins after using a site. I was even prepared to have a chat to him, but he hung up mid-way through the conversation and never called back :p

Rubbish, I got perfectly good quotes for my first car through them, allowed me to pick out which companies were worth bothering to pursue and which were a waste of time.

As for calls - using confused.com i got loads of calls, using comparethemarket i've not had a single unwanted call

Just tried this, got a £4.5k quote for a 1.3 Fiesta  I got just under £2k on gocompare.com.
