Gallstones - awful health issue

Got diagnosed with gallstones last year after two awful attacks. Had another attack just before new year. Some say the pain from a gallstone attack is worse than child birth - it wasn't that bad for me but pretty darn unpleasant nontheless.

Just seen a Consultant who is going to remove my gallbladder via keyhole surgery. Anyone else had this done? Not after medical advice, but would like to hear anyone's experiences.

My dad had this done two years ago after having many attacks. He was in for three days overall.

Obviously he was a bit sore after having it done, but after a few weeks he was back to his normal self. The scar is minimal too, you can barely see it.

Eats what he wants without any after effects.

My wife had Gallstones after the birth of our first child so she was recovering from C-Section at the same time. Not very pleasant, but after the op to remove then she recovered very quickly. Almost no scar at all and no side effects.

How did you develop it just out of interest? poor diet?

Depends on the type of gallstone I think - if they're cholestoral stones then yes, it's a result of a poor (fatty) diet. You can also get pigment stones which I think is a bit of mystery why they form. I don't know which type I have but being realistic, it's almost certainly the cholestoral ones.

So let this be a lesson to all you youngsters - eat healthy and do plenty of exercise. It really is pretty awful - the pain killers I've been prescribed have some unpleasant side effects.

I had Kidneys stones a few years back the pain was hell & felt like an Alien was going to burst out of me & No I am not kidding, The first attack I crawled across my ground floor on my belly unlocked the front door & rang an Ambulance.
I waited 9 months to see the specialist & then passed the stones about 9 days before the ******** appointment.
Don't talk to me about Pain. + :p

My wife had Gallstones, 1 large one in fact and had an operation to remove the gallbladder. The operation lead on to many further operations sadly but this was not down the the gallstones but other complications found when removing the bladder. That operation was via keyhole and she was up and running again fully probably 4 weeks later. One imagines keyhole to be simple but it is actually quite complex and involves a couple of additional points of entry to allow for siting and access. In the grand scale of things its a minor operation that once done should not have any additional side effects and will remove the problem of them occuring again.

HAHA owned :D :(.

You ******* :p

I tried phoning my specialist appointment to cancel but they told me to go anyway, I held out my hand showing the specialist the stones I had in my hands that looked like miniature asteroids with real sharp edges & she says " Oh are they the little lovelies" I nearly Punched her :p

Did you get them made up as a bracelet or are they trophies on your mantelpiece? :p:D

Jesus......I never really thought about this, but after a little research and all i can say is...im sorry.

my other half had this procedure done before the procedure they were all "no complications, no issues bish bash bosh we whip it out and you are 100%, eat anything you want after 2 weeks"

they said there may be some sickess

1) ended up going back in for 2 weeks after the op with pain and vomiting
2) pain for 18 months afterwards - slowley getting better
3) bloated all the time
4) unable to eat fatty / rich foods
5) agonising pain after the op for 2 or 3 days ( from the air they pump into you that can get trapped)

all doctors / nurses we spoke to after the op said there are often complications - before the op they said there are almost never complications

They are in a little jug with the 6 teeth I have pulled out myself. Pulled a massive back one out only the other day & now every time I am near the pot I point at it & say;
"You can't hurt me now can you" (Hysterical laughter) :p

Not of the jug but of him. With all this pulling I bet he looks a bit like this:
