Thought I'd treat myself to a new iPod Touch, to replace my prehistoric mp3 player. Just wondered what people normally do with the headphones, are the ones you get with it any good, or do people generally buy/use their own? Any suggestions if its the latter?

The headphones are acceptable to most, terrible to enthusiasts.
Cant recommend any as I'm using a pair of Sony in-ear's which are about 7 years old heh

Deffinately buy your own, apple earphones are terrible. How much are you willing to spend on a replacement?

not sure, maybe £40/£50... which I guess could mean I'd be getting a set which are not much different to what you get with it?

No for that price point you are getting a pair that are wayyyyyy above the standard headphones bundled in.

Don't know how so many people can use them to be honest

90% of people will say buy your own, but I've always used the Apple headphones and found no issues

I did try out a set of those Dr Dre headphones for £160 in HMV once, you can definitely tell the difference, but for what I use my iDevices for there's no reason for me to burn £160 on some headphones, I prefer buying 10 pairs of the white headphones from China for £5 off eBay

They are terrible IMO. I went and bought my first lot of IEMs the klipsch x1's for £18 when I got my iPod touch. Was in love, had only used the standard apple ones before. Now I have a £40-50 pair the Klipsch S4's and love them even more.
Not even sure how I used the Apple ones, they just fall out :s or don't go in!

Apple generic headphones... They sound terrible for the user, but even worse for any unfortunate soul who happens to be around them.
Most of the tinny sound seems to be urinated out the back of them, rather than into the users ears.

Definitely up there with airplane headphones or the 1990's Gameboy stereo headphones, in terms of sound quality.

Apple's headphone leak sound like crazy. Really annoying when you're standing next to someone using them. :(

£18-20 will buy you a decent pair of in-ear headphones these days.

are carrying an iDevice.

lol i remember one of my friends at school got his little brother to colour his in black with a sharpi.

On the other hand, the quality of the standard headphones suited me for what I needed and to be honest they are the only earphones that I have found that sit confortably in my ears.

I always try to grab other familys apple ones if they get a new ipod :D

Seinheiser CX300 II come highly reccomended by me, and many reviews.

Great all round sound, good build quality, decent price (look online on usual sites...).

The headphones are awful. I would spend 20-40 on some Seinheisers. Even £5-10 headphones are miles better. Some people can tolerate the bundled headphones, but they abysmal.

I think the Dre headphones are massively overpriced for what they are. Shure/Etymotic/Klipsch and various other brands do some ones worth considering if you want to spend more. I've had a few pairs of Shures and they are good, but don't last forever. Luckily they are really good about replacing them on warranty.

They are dreadful. Really, really bad. Awful sound quality and guaranteed to gain the ire of anybody sitting within five metres of you on a bus or train.

You can get a pair on in-ear 'phones for £10 which will be much better.

(edit) Just seen that you got some Sennheisers. Good choice :)

The bundled apple headphones are so uncomfortable. My ear lobes around the headphones ache if I wear them for more than 15 minutes.

+1

Get yourself some decent in ears those apple ones are amazingly uncomfortable. Sound quality isn't up to my standards but may be suitable for some.
