Most review sights have been able to hit 4.8Ghz because SB-E has extra strap it is much easier to OC.

I want it if it comes in cheap enough!!!

See above - Thats now 4750MHz.

Though stability seems very hard beyond 4500MHz, but it seems more to be the memory/motherboard crapping out.

I think these chips will need very very top end motherboards to get the best from them, or could just be a case this is not a great clocking chip. Though nothing wrong with 4500MHz and 8 cores. :D

1.48v for 4750 seems a lot considering 2700K can often do that on less than 1.4v (and over 1.4v is said to be dangerous anyway) and with onboard graphics to boot, no doubt X79 is a nice platform but with Ivy Bridge approaching on LGA1155 I'm struggling to see the appeal of this particular chip.

- Better performance than a 2700k at a cheaper price(or the same at the very least)!


I don't have high hopes for vanilla Ivy Bridge. All the CPU's are specced the same as SB, and you may see 100-150mhz overclocking performance tops, but i doubt its going to be as good as some of the ridiculous claims that have come out so far. :P

Wher did you hear that IB-E will have 8 active cores? As far as I can tell, IB-E will have the same number of cores as SB-E. To go octo-core, you would need to use one of the octo-core Xeon (which are rumoured to work in an X79 board). They will be available when SB-EP comes out in a couple of months.
 
Shame this didn't get released a few months ago as its a really nice chip for the money. But I can't help but think that ivy will be a better investment for the majority of people.

If these had been released a few months after the Sandy Bridge launch a year ago then they would have sold like hot cakes, as it stands most people will wait to see what Ivy Bridge brings to the table.
 
Hmmm interesting.

This chip makes investing in a high end X79 mobo & RAM very appealing, future proofing to the max with PCI-E 3, Quad channel Memory an IB-E CPU upgrade somewhere down the line.

Whatever Ivybridge brings to the table it'll just be a little taster of what the full IB-E platform will deliver in 2013 :)

No need to wait the specs are already out. Cache/mhz = same as SB, and therefore likely performance improvements are 1-3%~ per clock.

The 3820 has a much bigger cache which helps for some games (If It didn't then why would every Extreme Edition chip have a huge cache? :P).

OCing will probably see slightly better results and i imagine heat + power consumption will be better.

Technically the SB-E *are* 8-core chips, just with 2/4 cores disabled.

IB itself will only be 4 cores/8 threads

IB-E, which isn't until the end of 2012/early 2013 are 8 cores/16 threads.
 
It'd be nice to see some more IB-E specs to see if its worth shelling out now for the faster RAM those 1866 & 2100mhz quad channel kits look super tasty but they've got a price tag to match.
