S often stands for Second Edition. As in the second Iphone 3g was 3GS. The 2nd Iphone 4 was 4s.

I watched the keynote when the 3GS was unveiled and Steve Jobs and I remember he said the 3G is because it's the 3rd generation, and the S is because it's xxxxx times faster than the 3G

I want to know why they called LG called the Viewty, sod the S being Speed. I mean seriously, Viewty. That's a crap name. LG by and large have the worst named phones in the business imo, Chocolate, Cookie, I suspect their marketing department is on crack with suggestions like this.
