The Darkness - What a load of shizzzzzzle!!

I used to really toot my horn about how awesome The Darkness was - but this was before the 360 and the PS3 really got into their strides. It's a good game, but there's so much better now.

I should add that if the OP has the PS3 version then I'm not all that surprised - it's one of the worst ports this generation.
 
I didn't like it at the time, tried it again when I was bored a little while ago, still don't like it.
It's clunky, unintuitive, slow and just a bit too dull for me.

But fair play to those that enjoyed it, i've enjoyed games that people on here have slated.

I've started this yesterday and have played it a fair bit. I can echo the annoyance at the constant dying - the game doesn't really tell you that if you want to survive you really do need to be shrouded in darkness. It's more important to take out lights than enemies...!

I've just got to some weird 1st world war trench stage. I can't say I'm really drawn to play again. Is it worth persevering?

After playing the uncharted games, bioshock and god of war, it really does feel second rate. Saying that, I was actually pretty moved by the scene where you sit and watch TV with your girlfriend... that did feel pretty real :o
 
I enjoyed this game too. I think I picked it up stupidly cheap a while after release so perhaps this helped a little. I'll certainly be checking out the sequel when it's out.
 
Excellent game, but yes as others have said, it was released YEARS ago when dev's were still getting used to making games for the consoles and as such it's not going to feel "as polished" as many more recent AAA games.

Just played the demo for The Darkness 2 last night actually, really rather enjoyed it :D
 
Awesome game from what I've heard.

Luckily there's a sequel (which I played at an expo event in London) coming soon which looks and feels fantastic. getting that on PC though :p
 
Just finished this game, massive 'meh', easily the worst ps3 game I've played yet.

The game had some truly brilliant concepts let down with rubbish gameplay mechanics. All the darkness powers and darlings were useless until you got the darkness guns and became pretty much immortal for half the game.

The voice acting wasn't much above the infamous sonic adventure, the side missions were boring, the missions were crappy. The only decent part of the gameplay was when you went into the trenches sections. That and the relationship scene at the start aren't enough to carry a game. I couldn't recommend this.

i didn't have a good feeling about this game after trying the demo. i though they over complicated the controls and there is very little strategy to it. its probably one of those games you would play once and forget about it
 
The demo for The Darkness 2 is out on Xbox live if anyone wants to give that a go.

Personally - I haven't had chance to give it a go yet though. :(

Still, maybe tonight!
