Who actually cares about a 1080p console resolution as standard?

A 1080p resolution as standard on consoles is important to me

A 1080p resolution as standard is not important to me

2 answers, i dont see the need for 19 possible other poll options.

So pick 1 or the other, I've requested a poll.

:)

Not important to me. I'd rather have the eye candy that running at 720p with a bit of AA allows.

Also, framerate is more important than resolution to me.

it all depends really on whether graphic quality would be hampered.

in the case of this generation games aren't even rendered at 720P.

they are all upscaled.

so for next gen i would hope all games were rendered at 720P minimum then upscaled, but the generation after that i would want them to be rendered at 1080P, it's only right after all since it is meant to be a HD console.

Well to me it has no importance, I was happy playing GTA 4 upscaled from 620p. Resolution has zero baring on my console gaming. A solid frame rate(Which unfortunately GTA4 lacked:p) is more important to me, I like a nice looking busy game. I dont want to see games cut down inorder to allow 1080p.

you guys do understand the p in 1080p means 60fps?

therefore frame rate would be more than adequate for a console imo.

therefore if they can build a console which renders in 720P next gen i would be very pleased, the gen after that i would want 1080P though.

Thought it went 1080p30, 1080p60 or 1080p24 full HD 1080 x 1920 60?

So games could be 1080p and run at 30fps or 60fps but still be 1080p?

^^ guy above me also posted the same...

Lol no they aren't. Some are, not all.

No it doesn't. The P means progressive scan

Even simplier way to say it...

Anyhow, 720p, 1080p doesn't matter. 720p on most HDTV sets can look equally as good as 1080p considering 720p can afford more AA, or better MLAA or better quincunx filtering - only have to look at Ps3 Uncharted 2 & 3 for good examples of how tidy 720p can actually be when done right..

the whole 24p is for films only iirc.

therefore 50 or 60 is what i would assume would be used for games.

Console games running at 30fps on a HDTV is what you'd expect if running at 1080p.

To get and maintain 60fps at 1080 and look better then say uncharted 3 would require a lot of raw power, something consoles don't have stacked up. Developers learn tricks to get games running at 30fps but look better and better.

the current crop of console games are now expected to look better then they did in 2006 when this gen appeared, yet how do developers do this without any increase in raw power?

Its tricky, but 720p is with us for sometime as it does mean eye candy and decent fps...

Gameplay is always most important to me. Eye candy is nice but not a big deal.

Just take a look at how well minecraft has done with very simplistic graphics ( I know it's an extreme example as very few games will be capable of that level of gameplay/creativity).

That still doesnt mean that the p refers to fps though :p

And no to the OP, 720p with a consistent fps (>30fps personally, ideally 60fps) and as someone else said AA/FSAA as standard!

ps3ud0

A 1080p resolution as standard is not important to me. Personally I value a higher frame rate and graphical treats such as AA, the native resolution of the game doesn't have any bearing on how much I enjoy it. I'm still playing my PC games on a low resolution by today's standards, it just means that I can ramp up the graphical quality in other areas.
