Thanks for the feedback, my only concern with 4-4-2 is the lack of a buffer between the midfield and defence. Whenever I look at it on paper it seems like there's nobody for the defence to distribute the ball to easily, which might force me to go wide when playing from the back or playing on a counter attack? Also I do worry about being vulnerable on a counter attack myself, one well placed pass could take my entire midfield out of the equation and that sounds a bit risky!
But then the only real alternative to that is 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-1-2 so... maybe I'll give 4-4-2 a go before I write it off completely.
It's okay, I get bored of every team I make, it's just the circle of life for me, some teams live longer than others mind you.
You're right with the distribution from defence, I normally play it out to the wingers and then pass it into the centre for a CM to pick it up. With IF Carrick I found that his positioning is good that a counter attack is less likely to come from the centre, only way for that to happen is via a loft through ball. You could always go defensive. Then again I hardly use my CM to start attacks as I use wingers to start the attack.

Stats are good but I didn't get on with him.
i'd say so, i spent 70k on a overall 4-1-2-1-2 starting 11 with Modric/Mata costing 40 out of the 70. pics is on the previous page.
Im using IF Cabaye as CAM 4-1-2-1-2 in my Newcastle team, his dribbling/passing is very decent. lacking a bit of pace but always manages to pop up at the edge of the box for a shot or two. i'd rate him.
Just lost the most annoying game ever, Piatti and Pepe are so useless but they were a stop gap anyway and Zarates passing is just annoying me too much now.

The bottom team has some dead links but you could probably get 100 chem if everyone was in the right formation and position however that's gonna cost a lot. Also, in 41212 the wingers play as... well wingers, really, so (imo) not much point having Hulk and Villa to cut in when they won't really be playing in the right positions. Saying that, traditional wingers in either la liga or brazilian are either hard to come by or just rubbish... hmmm...

Do you think it's possible to make a good EPL team for around 250-300K? Oh and did you ever try 4-4-2? If so how did you find it?
the fact that the best back 5 should cost you less than 40K, it's very easy to make a team with 300K.

it's just finding a formation that works is a tricky part, 4321 is such an obvious choice for Liga BBVA and it just works, i found it didn't work with EPL.
4231 should work if you can work with a lone striker or 4222 worked well for me.
the thing which is best to note is the work rates of players, Mikel, Song and Lucas Leiva are the best defense minded CDM's and stay in postion. Essien and Toure run forward too much and leave you exposed they are essentially CM's not CDM's.
Nasri, IF Johnson, IF Sessegnon are good choices for wide CAM's.
CF and ST's you have some of the best in the business to choose from, choose the ones you like to play with, my personal preference was Aguero and Dzeko

Split opinion eh, just fancied another team as I pretty much play every game with that one above and a cheaper BPL team to rotate fitness. Haven't tried Torres, Hulk, Silva, Van Persie yet so think I'll just give it a crack. I don't really mind dead links as long as chem is still 100 which it still should be. If you have any other ideas instead of do tell!

Thanks, I'm still undecided on a formation, 4-4-2 still worries me with the lack of a proper holding midfielder so I think I'm going to exclude that one for now, all of the formations with 3 or 5 at the back can also go, which only leaves me with a handful of options. Ideally I'd want two up front, but I've used 4-2-3-1 quite extensively and while there isn't two dedicated strikers I do find that the CF and ST complement each other very well and it seems like a very balanced formation on the whole. If you set the team to defensive mentality then it can be incredibly difficult to break down and you can keep the ball for huge amounts of time too, which in my experience leads to the opponent getting frustrated, chasing your ball carriers and leaving huge gaps in their formation for you to exploit.
My only issue with attempting to use a 4-2-3-1 with an EPL team is that it virtually excludes the use of the LM's and RM's that the EPL has in abundance, unless you want to play them at CAM with a dark green boot that is.
