A timely arrival: orangutan protectively hugs her daughter as ruthless Borneo bounty hunters move in

The thought of hurting another living creature alone makes me shudder. Don't know how people can do it.

It's another RSS post-and-run from the forum's finest proponent of the art. Ok, I'm out and won't clutter the thread further.

Thank god for that...compared to the utter rubbish you have posted its ironic that your having a go at Robbo lol.

Good job on the brits getting there in time...disgusting how they could contemplate killing such animals.

Pot kettle black.
If this is the quality of what you think makes a good thread then I'm with Robbo -

Who ARE you people and what do you want?

You are a cat, this garden isn't even yours

A wild swimming pool appears!

Sigh.

Why is hunting only OK when it's done for food?

I don't agree with hunting for sport, etc. but it's hard to be against something that, as far as I know, we owe our very existence to - and that hunting for food. If our ancestors failed to develop the skills to hunt for animals during the Stone Age, how would they have survived?

I take it you don't eat meat?

****ing love meat.

I do, however, also realise that eating meat is as unecessary as a leather belt or a sport for people wearing tweed.

Meh, if it means people go hungry, I'd rather the animals died. Not a fan of mindless violence though.

Sorry... I'll bite...

Are you really that selfish or alouf?

There are 7 billion people on this planet, I'd much rather a few of those died than lose a few of the only 50000 orang-utans...

Besides, it's not even that. Those hunters are just there to make money, they aren't hunting for food. The Illegal logging and planting of Palm oil also needs to be stopped.

As I say in every thread on these sort of matters. We need to curb human population growth fast, or we are going to **** up this planet more than it is*

*In before the "Well start with yourself then..." I am, I don't plan on having more than 2 children...;)

Sorry... I'll bite...

You're comparing human life with that of an orang-utan because there are more of us?

Yes, essentially...

Why should we have the right to kill anything we want because we can't coexist like most other animals...?

EDIT: Actually kill is the wrong word, it should read wipe out as we are doing more than killing a few, we are wiping out entire species because of our greed and inability to see past ourselves. We are all animals and have just as much right to live on the land, the Orang-utans in this case probably more so as they were almost certainly there first.

Do you also thing it was right for the white man to wipe out whole native american tribes as well?

Everything you just said is completely irrelevant to the fact that you would exchange human life to save an orang-utan. You haven't justified yourself in the slightest, you've just given me a bunch of obvious arguments for not killing endangered species.

That's not what I questioned you about, is it?

None of it is or ever was right, nor can it ever be right.

Killing for gain is natural. It's not a question of right or wrong.

What's right and what's wrong is always going to be subjective and based on opinion. There is no solvable argument to be had.

It's not an argument it's a question of responsibility. We think of our selves as superior 'worth more than other species', in turn we do have guardianship of the planet and it's ecosystems in many ways. As a guardian we have responsibility; to protect, there is our responsibility.

Well done to the British-based animal rescue group for saving the orangutans! I thought that picture was quite moving.

It's a shame that this sort of thing is happening, killing these creatures for £70... :(

I swear to christ as I read that the "and the mother was equipped with a radio" I was expecting the next bit to be "so they could call for help next time " :p

Seriously though, I'm a vegetarian, I don't want to eat animals but everything else seems like hypocrisy to me, you either don't want to have animals killed for food/clothing/whatever...... or you do, designating "some" animals as worthy of being saved and others as not is just, laughable to me.

I'll eat a cow and happily have one killed to satisfy my hunger but hell, I can't stand the idea of a dolphin being killed or a whale or, whatever else.
