Worst. "Protest". Ever.
Wouldn't doing nothing be the worst protest?
The Internet bypasses borders now and the old world needs to catch up.
The 'Old World' is catching up....that is the problem.
I think it's more like they're scared to death of the power shift to the people and thus are blindly thrashing around to keep hold of the old ways of managing flows of information, power and in the case of the corporations their business models.
No doubt, however who do you really think is going to win? Especially as those very Corporations you refer to are the Social Networks themselves......don't be so naive as to think that Google, Facebook and Twitter and companies like them are not complicit in trading their influence for power.....
Google et al (probably not Facebook though) are new media and whilst I'm not going to be naive and suggest they don't desire power but they do get their revenue and popularity from people using them to share information.
Whereas the old media sells us items that they don't want us to share. Governments in the past have in effect "sold" us information and still try to manipulate (spin) the information they feed us via traditional channels.
Social media and the blogosphere removes the above. It makes us content creators, content sharers, information sharers and the old guard don't like this. They don't like it one bit.
