on my car stereo i have an ipod connector which accepts audio and charges my ipod 5th gen 80gb perfectly.

great, i thought no need for another pointless charger for my new iphone 4s and i dont have to carry the ipod around. plugged it in..

"charging is not supported with this accessory"

FFFFFFUUUUU..

i take it theyve changed the accepted charging supply for the iphone?

The only reason I can think of for this is that the iPhone needs more current than the connector can supply. If so that's a bit odd as car electrics aren't short of amps! Cradle in mine charges as fast as the mains one does.

It's nothing to do with the current, your radio is probably using the old firewire charging pins which were phased out some time ago and haven't worked on newer devices for quite a while.

Ah I see. That's a pain in the rear then. Wonder if they make a newer connector..

Did you miss my post?

Jailbreak and download Resupported then the iPhone will just realise its connected to power and charge, off any capable cable

Found a new version of the lead for the stereo for 8 quid, hurrah

I'd rather not to correct having the wrong cable.

That's a brilliant way to invalidate the warranty on a brand new £500+ iPhone 4S.

Love how uninformed people think that once you jailbreak your phone Apple will hunt you down with iGuns lol.

If you get any problems with your phone, u just restore it, Apple can't tell if it's been jailbroken or not

Again, why does that matter, all iDevices use the same power connection and will only draw the power it needs. The only issue you may run into is if you're trying to use some dodgy-no-name Japanese knock off charger.

Using the official charger/sync cables will give you no issues at all with any headunit after you jailbrake.

Yes i tried Resupported and it made no difference.

Really? thats weird, maybe the 4S is the acception but it worked on my i4

That is completely false.

Older devices such as my iPod 3rd Gen use Firewire which is 12V on different dock connector pins to the more modern USB charging devices on 5V.

Hence the "charging is not supported with this accessory" message.

To add to what i said earlier, the 4S is fine in all my other docks, with any other cable etc, its only in hte car i have this issue, so i assume its the cable.....

But i dont know of a newer one or some kind of adaptor.. Anyone know of anything like that?
