Audio from PC to TV via HDMI

hi,
Im trying to get it so that when i play a video from my pc on my TV the audio comes from the TV automatically and the pc sounds stay on the speakers for my pc
i have the TV connected via HDMI cable to my graphics card
i have also been into the control panel/hardware and sound/manage audio devices and checked that the TV recieves the audio signal through the hdmi cable

but when i play a video in a media player on the tv screen it still plays through the speakers for my pc , what is there i can do to change this ?

all programs will use whatever audio device is set to default unless you manually set the output device within the program itself. You didnt mention what media player you are using, but for example if you are using media player classic, then within the program navigate to view >> options >> playback >> output >> audio renderer. This is where you would set the audio output device for MPC.

Remember if you want all other audio to use the pc speakers then the pc speakers must be set to default.

ok thanks, i use WMP, VLC and DivX player i cant seem to find the options for this in these programs though? maybe im just not looking for the right thing ? :(

Edit: just found i have media player classic on my pc which i didnt know about so i guess i can use that just for on my other screen thanks :)

one other thing i was streaming from lovefilm last night would i have to set firefox sounds to my TV display for sound from teh stream to come through my TV?

Dunno if ATi or Intel (etc..) cards have this setting in their Graphics Control Panel, but nVidia has this great function!!..

yeh i doubt firefox has the option ill jus have to up the volume on my speakers while streaming so the sound fills the whole room and i cant tell its coming from somewhere else :p

as for teh nvidia control panel i just switched to ATI yesterday so i dont know what i have as options in here as its my first tiome with ATI
 
Are you running Win7?

I've had a similar problem in the past.

You've likely tried this but....

Right click the volume control in the bottom right of your task bar and select "playback devices" (think thats right). It'll have a few different devices, select your tv then click "set as default".

Can't confirm this 100% as im not at home but when your tv is connected it should register in the playback devices options. If its defaulting on your speakers then it won't play through the tv.
