OK, So I just found my hard copy and only copy of this wonderful game, thing is, it looks gash on a 1920x1080 display, is there anything I can do to combat this and are there any texture mods to make it less aged?

Texture mods are not worth the hassle imo for the small increase you get.

Follow this guide on Widescreengaming to get it to display in 1920x1080 if you need to. iirc you have to download a patch to get it to work, i did it recently and it works well.

Like already mentioned, best you'll be able to do is enable widescreen resolutions. Tbh once you've cranked it up to 1650x1050 it's not that bad looking really. KoToR2 is worse as widescreen doesn't work.

I had both running at 1920x1080, the only problem with KoToR2 was the UI.

I did it through one tutorial ages ago, can't remember which. I think it looks nice as well. Saying that, I have spent over 1500 hours on Kotor 1 alone if you combine Xbox & PC... I know lol

Probably something I was doing wrong, but on my iMac (i5 2.7 & ATI 6770) in Bootcamp (haven't tried it on the dedicated gaming PC). I could get the game to play fine at 1080p with the improved UI elements, however no matter what I tried I could not get the in-game movies to run. Every time I left these running the the game would crash. I tried a few fixes but to no avail.

I'd be interested to know if you manage to get the game running with the in-game movies.

:p

1500??? How? I could understand this for a game like Morrowind but a highly linear RPG... Crazy. Still, I've probably wasted as much time on minsweeper over the years

Well KOTOR has I dunno, a dozen(?) party characters of which you can only use 2 at a time so there are many possible combinations. So I can understand why people might play the game several times trying different things (light/dark/neutral alignment, different party composition, focus on force powers / combat / stealth etc).

That said, at lets say 50 hours a playthrough (probably less once you get bored of seeing cutscenes a dozen times and just skip them) that would still mean having played through the game 30 times, which is a lot :)

You don't understand how many times I played that back on the original Xbox, probably more than 1500 if I'm honest. I just could never get bored and always came back to it. If you include KOTOR II, then add another 1K hours at least. Then there's TOR lol...

Don't get me wrong, I loved KoToR and have recently played KoToR2 with the new 1.7 Restored Content mod. I just couldn't imagine playing them more then once! Luckily I now have TOR to keep me occupied!

Amazing games, shame the second one was a bit rushed. I think I'd quite like to play through these again actually if there are any decent mods out. :D

Anyone else had issues getting koror to launch? Win7x64, steam version, 5870, newest catalysts..

The game launches, plays the lucasarts vid, followed by a bunch of nothing :/

From my post further up in the thread this is where I had the main issue with running this on an iMac via Bootcamp (latest 11.12 cats at the time) - I did also try an older C2D with Intel integrated GFX (forgot to mention that earlier; same result). Essentially the game would run, but only with in-game movies de-activated which for me felt like a big no-no. Both running Win 7 64bit Home Premium.

Lots of people have this issue on the Steam and other forums, but none of the suggested fixes worked for me. I get the impression people just de-activate movies to run this game. Would love to know if anyone did/does fine a way around this.

In some ways I tempted to re-buy it (never got that far at the time) on Xbox just because it's far less hassle to get running properly.

are there any known good mods for this game mainly graphical?
about to start playing through this but fancy some better visuals

I would love it if their were. While there was a whole load of combinations, really they were a bit fruitless as light/dark came down to one decision so you could save at that point and finish both endings.

What a twist though, without doubt my favourite moment in all gaming ever.

Replaying this as well, I researched quite heavily for mods before playing but there is very little. Word of warning too, Kotor is very very picky when it comes to mods, the mods out are buggy and will easily break something completely unrelated. The released restored content mods aren't worth bothering with, there one in development but the version they released pretty much breaks loads of stuff.

I tried a Ultimate texture mod as it was the only one I could find, and that was broken, however there is a few worth while mods.

http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Weapons_of_the_Old_Republic;74001 - Gives unique weapons to companions that can be upgraded etc and look good, some sabres in there too. Make sure you patch and delete the files it says in the description.

http://www.gamefront.com/files/7099600/enhanced_merchants_k1.zip - Make merchants useful, have much more inventory and new items I've noticed.

http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Brotherhood_of_Shadow_Solomons_Revenge;99985 - A content mod that's voiced and highly praised, again read the instructions etc carefully.

There is a robe mod I have in but I can't find the patches as I acquired them elsewhere when googling, you don't really need anything else. Don't blame me if something breaks :D, been warned, playing fine with them in.
