having just completed stalker shadow of Chernobyl i'd like to nominate it for the worst ending of any video game.

for those of you who dont want to read the ending, ive hidden it for you :)

after fighting your way through a massively radiated area full of very strong enemies you reach the wish granter. you walk up to the wish granter and press F to make a secret wish.

at this point i was hoping for a menu to come up with some choices of useful things like loads of money, more powerful weapons, ability to carry a stupid amounts of weight, etc, etc, then for the wish granter to do its thing and for me to carry on and go back for the side quests i'd missed (a tonne of them)

what actually happened was i got a cutscene of my character acting and sounding like a gormless oaf saying "i want to be rich." not all bad so far, but for a guy who has more money than he knows what to to with in the game this is a bit boring. then the building starts collapsing and a nut that has fallen on the floor looks like a gold coin to him (but not everyone else). finally the building collapses on him, the credits roll and presumably he dies because you cannot continue.

never have i had a more sucky ending

guess i'm going to go back to my save before the wish granter and turn back :(

this thread is more for me to vent than anything else, but feel free to post other games with terribad endings, preferably with spoiler quotes for those who dont want to know the ending

Any beat em up fighting game since the dawn of time.

I'll think of something more controversial in a moment...

Hmm...probably the last game I finished and thought "is that it?!!" was red alert 3, I just had to beat it to get my moneys worth, stinker of a game.

They badly need to come out with a C&C game thats classic again, hopefully generals 2 will be it.

Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands was a solid, unremarkable game but the ending was pants, the actual fight beforehand was quite well done but the closure was abysmal.

Oblivion, why can't bethesda do a decent main quest, the stuff leading up to it sucked...I don't even remember what happened at the end, I remember a massive **** off dragon and some guff.

I just completed GTA4 and not only is it buggy and badly done but also forces you to play through 10 mins of cut scenes just to try a 10 second part yet again.
The ending scene is kinda crap too.

End titles play in silence, not even some fireworks bah :/

Yeah DXHR had a shockingly bad ending. They blatantly just stuck it on as an afterthought because you're just presented with a machine with 3 buttons, each giving a different ending cutscene. And another button down a hallway for the most stupid ending. At least the original game required a bit of running around between the different ending buttons.

DX:HR is one for me too, I was hoping you'd at least see the consequences of your actions, not some silly little cutscene.

Splinter cell conviction: Anecdote about an elephant what the France!

Also Im on the last level on DX:HR thanks guys....

I win.

The stuff in between the main quest in Oblivion was great, it even had a good intro...but the ending is just so bad it belongs in a jeremy irons sword and sandals film.

Boarderlands or MGS4

Boarderlands as it was such an anti-climax

And MGS4 as it just dragged on and was so O.T.T. and poorly scripted

Medal of Honour. I thought the game right upto the end wasn't too shaby. The final scene was a massive let down. I had to open up my save games just to try it again to make sure I hadn't missed anything

Mafia II for me, It was a fun final mission but the ending was so predictable, nicely done though.

Side Note: Just finshed Portal 2, Great ending. A bit crazy considering you can't shoot portals on anything but 'light grey wall'.

Explaination of portal 2 finale in Spoiler

Shooting a portal onto the moon.

Having just completed battlefield bad company 2, I'd have to nominate that as pretty dire. Although to be fair, I wasn't expecting much.

There are seven endings in SOC, and though I have seen better I didn't think they were very poor. The worst ending for me is in Clear Sky, the best - COP. I finished DXHR last night and thought the ending and extra 'bit' were worthy of a decent ending.

I'm about to play RAGE over the next few days...so we shall see.
