My wife and I have booked for a USA trip in August, ideally want to rent a Mustang convertible for a few weeks, and have one of the super sport cameros/mustangs for a few days too.

Since when you book a Mustang you are booking a "category" rather than a "model" it is possible I could end up with something else similar on all sites I have been to. I have seen that Budget cars buy in mainly Fords so a Mustang is far more likely than if a convertible is booked.

As for booking the performance cars online, I havent been able to find a combination of location and date where these are ever available online, any recommendations about where/how to book one in advance?

Does anyone here have any other recommendations about where/how to book to get the car I want? and how to get one of the performance models for a few days?

Book with an agency that uses Alamo. Uscarhire or Carhire3000 both do. Book a standard convertible.

Turn up at rental desk. Hand over details. Walk into lot. Find Mustang. Get into Mustang. Drive Mustang off the rental lot.

Hertz offer the option to guarantee a Mustang but it's about twice the price...

No they don't ONLY use Mustangs, but you get to select the car you want from the lot in the majority of locations. So just pick the Mustang.

Hertz are doing a promo with 20% off USA hire at the moment £500 approx for a mustang vert for 2.5 weeks then around £50 off through quidco. Book the exact car even if it is a few quid more.

Carhire 3000, not 100% sure they tell you in advance which car company it will be, so could be risky as you might end up with Dollar or Budget etc. But you can cancel with them easily if its not the one you want.

Be carefull of major events, Once I had a car prebooked and it was the superbowl or something and there was about two cars left in massive car park in Orlando.

You can just phone them up beforehand and they'll tell you.

Cool will remember that, one thing I have noted with them is if you save a quote as soon as you start thinking about the trip they will often email you in a few days with a smallish discount voucher which helps.

Carhire3000 changed to rentalcars.com but every time I've used them, about 5 times although only for UK hire they have always said what company I'll be hiring from.

For what it's worth I had a good look around for the best price for a Mustang and Hertz managed to beat everyone (using a 20% discount code). Be careful not to use discount codes which may be queried. I did see someone on here claim to be a senior citizen or something...they will just remove that when you get there.

After much digging around it seems it isnt possible to book a convertible anywhere in Chicago :( Its going to have to wait for the next holiday somewhere warmer in the US of A.

Looks like its a dodge charger this time around.
