At Morrisons

Lol at the instant PC vs Console debate.

Consoles run at lower graphics detail, yes, but you know nearly all the games you buy for it will work out the box.

Console £150-£250

Gaming PC minimum £800-£1500 (to make it worthwhile over a console)

Problem?

Oh and I love my PS3, I don't really game anymore but as a Bluray player / media player it is awesome.

At that price it is almost getting one just for the sake of getting one if you don't already own it, I really love mine and don't use it half as much as I should :(

To be fair, 360 is 6 years old, PS3 is 5 years old, who'd buy any of those nowadays if you haven't already got one?

Old technology now, gawd the graphics processors in those setups was designed at least 7/8 years ago.

I think I'll stick with my PC.

I prefer my console ATM, games look great and I know they are going to work, without having to worry about upgrades/specs etc. This is regardless of how old the console is/graphics technology it is based on. There is a huge market for this peace of mind, which is still, and always will be going strong.

There are always 2 sides to the argument but this is my current stance :p

How easy is the PS3's DVD side to make it Multi Region (I know the BR is next to impossible!!) as the Sony BR players are easily done (and my local electronics specialist will do it for free for me!!)...

I have about 50-50 split region 1 to region 2 DVD's (with some region 3's thrown in for good measure!)

Plus the Sony BDP-S480 is only £120 or the BDP-S380 is £90

Does it really matter if they are upscaled?

The fact of the matter is that I can play all the latest games on my PS3/360, even though it is 7/8 year old tech.

That is all that matters.

The why or the how or the details do not matter one bit, the fact is they do.

There are very good looking games on both.

Old technology can keep up if done right, as many of the console games demonstrate.

Also, it doesn't look as if either are going to be replaced for a good while yet, so that isn't an issue.

The people that make out that, even though the consoles are 5+ years old but can handle the "latest" games, confuse me. The insinuation is that a 5 year old PC can't play the latest games ergo they suck in comparison.

Seems to be missing the fact that the "latest games" for the consoles are built around what the console can handle i.e to be played on 5 year old tech whereas it is being compared to the latest PC games which are designsd to run on new tech.

Essentially, the "latest games" for consoles are 5 year old tech as well....

think i can post this as OC dont sell them

on Monday they r seling the ps3 slim 160gig for £150, and i think xbox 4gig with kinnect £189 and some other bits too

seems like a good price :D

Very good price, thanks for the heads up! Popped out and bought one this morning :)

I think my parents pc cost me £175 to build, I'm not so sure an PS3 or XBOX360 is better than it:

C2D E8500 @ 4GHz
4GB G.Skill PC8500
GeForce 9800GTX
Asus Rampage mobo

Is it powered by (and encased in) air?

Even then, there are still plenty of reasons to get a console. It doesn't fall to graphical comparisons alone - not even close.

It's encased in a cheap case and powered by a Corsair TX450.

How well does it run GTA 4?

:D

At 1366x768, excellent (it's on the TV downstairs), all max settings run smooth as, I was surprised as I was expecting it to run like a slideshow. The PC is only used for browsing the internets anyway.

I remember when I had a PS3 about 5 years ago, and got GTA IV, it ran like a dog and looked like a dog, was horrible.

I thought about nipping down to Morrisons and picking up a PS3. I fancy a console, for various multiplayer arcade games (like Fifa) but can I afford £150? Mmm...

Can spec me a pc capable of running a new game at 1920x1080 with a blu ray drive for £250? You probably can't unless you steal the parts.

Without fanboying either, you should consider total cost of ownership. You can't argue about the price of the hardware without considering the price difference between games on both platforms. Whilst games like MW3 attempt to pretend that the gulf doesn't exist, the vast majority of new games can be found at almost half the price of the console version.

Price should be low on the list of concerns.

You could look at the whole PC VS console argument like this - most people have and need a pc. How much more do you have to spend on that base PC to exceed the performance of a console? Not much. Looking at mine, it cost me about £120 for a PC that is far more powerful/better for gaming than a console over the 'base' requirements I'd need for a PC. So why bother with both, when you can have a PC that does the job better?

There are a lot of extremely good console exclusive games that you can't get on a PC.

I know this is a PC enthusiast forum but people are just being silly now.
