Hey guys, just bought a new PC from OcUK, built it and turned it on and the graphics card flashed and emitted a puff of smoke and a foul smell of burning and that was it. I've just sent OcUK a webnote, hopefully gonna RMA it. Any other advice for what to do with it? It's a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 560 1024MB.

Dont turn it on for obvious reasons, but Id RMA the entire computer incase the card damaged a PCi slot or something.

Sounds like the PSU may have suffered transit damage.

As above, don't try switching it on again and FFS don't fiddle with it. Just get it back to them :)

Surely if you built it, OCUK wouldn't accept liability.

Unless they can see there was something clearly wrong with the card.

I built it myself. I'm using XFX Pro 650W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply. I'm not too sure about it being the power supply though as the graphics card popped before I'd plugged either of the power connectors into it... My knowledge of this is if you try and do this the computer just won't post.

So you tried the card without plugging in the power connectors to it? Sounds like it may have overloaded the motherboard.

Pure accident. It didn't boot first time around because the mobo power connector wasn't in properly. As much as it sounds I'm not a noob, I've been building computers for years!

So your just having a bad day, I always double check everything before I power up.
Not sure how you stand with the gfx card rma, might be worth trying another card in the slot if you can
