LoL or Heroes of Newearth

LoL and DotA/HoN shouldn't really be compared IMO. They have different player bases. I used to play DotA but after a days work its too stressful concentrating on a million things.

Pick a "better game" between HoN and D2 by all means, but comparing LoL and DotA is like Rainbow 6 to CS.

Personally I prefer LoL as its more relaxing, it's just a shame the community is mostly full of pre-pubescent 13 year olds. Playing in a group of common people is fine though

I've never understand that. Denying is just last hitting your own creeps. What's so special about denying?

Because you have to try and last hit your own creeps while you're doing it. It makes last hitting even harder because even if you do time it right someone might deny the creep.

In all honesty I never got on with the idea although that was probably because I was never any good at it.

It's stop the person your laning against from farming, so it stops them from gearing up.

It would work with HoN and Dota2, but i doubt it would in LoL.

But it's really all the same. It's just last hitting. So HoN is so deep and complex because it has more creeps on the map? Really? That's it?

You can stop your opponent farming in LoL.

No it isn't more complex due to last hitting, it's just people prefer different ways of playing.

But you can not deny creeps, hence stopping them from getting last hit and gaining money.

You can deny creeps by zoning them out. If they're not able to walk up to the creep and attack it because you're outplaying them, then they don't get the gold. Same outcome as denying just a different way of doing it.

you can do that in any moba

Yeah i know that, but apparently as you can't physically get last hit on your own creeps then it's an easy game or so a lot of people think.

I don't care about that like you said zoning them out is essentially the same thing.

I prefer LoL by the way, just some think it's a noob friendly game because of it.

Yes, that's true but in DotA you can either zone them out or deny the creeps. You might get some match-ups where you're not strong enough to completely zone them out but if you're better at denying you can gain an advantage in the long run. You also lose gold for dying which makes staying alive even more important since it makes them stronger and you weaker. It doesn't have summoner spells like flash to help you out when you screw up either.

In all honesty they're all reasons that I hated DotA. I personally find it a much more enjoyable game when I don't feel like it's kicking me in the balls for every mistake. Ultimately it's personal preference though.

I've played DotA 2 and HoN. Never played LoL because I've never wanted to, it looks ugly IMO. Unfortunately HoN has gone downhill recently. Mid level games just ended up being 90% pubstomps.

HoN was incredible at first, was relatively balanced and the engine works really well with the game, everything is as responsive as it needs to be. DotA is slightly slower than HoN, and LoL, from what I've heard, is even slower still.

Also since I started playing HoN which imported most of the DotA mechanics it feels like a step backwards playing LoL. I can see why people enjoy it, it's far easier to pick up and play for a bit but getting good at a game that requires skill is so much more satisfying :D

DotA 2 is for sure the best game right now. Needs tweaking still but now that I'm used to it I'm absolutely loving it. If you were playing LoL and plan on getting DotA 2 then you should try HoN to get used to some of the mechanics that LoL left out, a lot of HoN heroes are more or less direct clones of heroes in Dota so if you learn to play them your skills should translate between the games.

"it feels like a step backwards playing LoL"

this is true, lol makes you pick up a lot of bad habbits!

its like a driving test in a gocart, lol= pass. hon, dota = punish you (get in a real car) :)
i played HON hella lot in beta, loved it, got pushed out of it by pier pressure.

then later i came back to lol, forgot all about how HON mechanics work.
then tryed playing dota2, feals slow but it will punish you if you dont understand.

so i stick to lol now :)

people do that in lol .... the good players anyway if you dont you can end up with someone like nasus beeing stupid op after laning ends.

seriously people keep saying dota is harder of more complex but cant give any genuine reason as to why... all the same tactics are used in each of the games whilst the graphics and map sizes change nothing else really does in the normal mode

The problem with LoL is it has been stitched together by The Worlds Most Incompetant Games Development company, aka Riot. Whilst on the whole i have no problem with them releasing new champions every week, the engine is so poorly designed its impossible for them to design characters with original skill sets. What that means is ever single new champ is just a mass up clone of one that already exists. It makes the whole thing rather boring.

Whilst I don't think denying is a massively complex mechanic, it does widen the gap between poor and good players.

This is why it was removed from LoL, the devs saw it as "anti-fun", whereby noobies could be stomped even easier by better players or premades.

So they removed it, and other mechanics deemed "anti-fun" like mana-burn. This makes the game more accessible to noobs, which tbf is needed. They are a business first, and if noobs get stomped constantly, they are likely to stop playing and never buy the new champ or get a legendary skin, etc.

That said, this is also why I play LoL. I'm not a massive fan of overly strategic games, haven't played an RTS since SupCom1, so the fast paced click-a-thon of LoL is more my thing.

Well Since I started this thread I am please that I am getting a good response with others opinions :) I played HoN for the first time last night with my brother and I must admit that it is harder than I thought.

Dont get me wrong I like the Engine and also the moves are more satisfying but I got owend every time because I was Feeding them? Probs got that habbit from Lol and once that has happened its no good we lost before we knew it.

I just havent got the accuracy to last hit my creeps to deny and then they are up on me for the kill like 2 shots and POW im dead.

I found the interface a little complex when buying gear and didnt have a clue even with the reconmended. I know there is a learning curve for this HoN but I cant seem to give it chance either because of getting kicked or loosing really badly. I think in the total 3 games I played last night I got 2 kills.
