For actual performance, abilities and character it has to be Sisko - he's the only one of the "captains" who really developed over the run of his series imo.

Sisko was imo the most rounded and fleshed out of the Captains, with the most development over his run.

To be fair that's because long story ark tv basically started in the early 90's with, Babylon/ds9/x-files to a lesser degree maybe/other crap.

TOS/NG didn't have that, and an almost opposite way of doing it was Voyager.... it had the ark but, DS9/babylon/anything else you didn't actually know where the story was going. With Voyager, and Enterprise(again to a lesser degree) you "end" was basically established at the beginning and then Voyager became a very episode to episode setup. Enterprise kind of flip flopped between the two, some series while you knew the history and what most storys would be based on the history talked about in other shows, they had the season long arks to stop the attack on earth.

Sisko had the best story/ark to work with, though as always god type stuff always grates, it wasn't that bad though, and the war arks and things were great.

Sisko had the best material and was the best captain with the best stories, but not maybe the best actor.

But then I liked how he portrayed it, the pausing, why should every captain act the same?

The worst "role" was Janeway, worst actor was Archer, just about everyone was crap in that, Trip I guess being ok. Vulcan boobs couldn't act for crap.

Meh DS9 had the best cast as well, Dax(first one......drools), O'brian, Odo, Quark, Bashir was one of the best of all, played irritating **** brilliantly, played hero brilliantly, and his character probably "grew" more than anyone else in all the series.

Kirk > Picard > Sisko > Archer > Janeway

I think Kirk (not junior, he deserves all he gets) gets a lot of unjustified stick, the result i suspect of the shows ago and the many parodies its spawned over the years.

He was a suprisingly serious guy, always got the job done and didn't let his first officer have all the fun!

Didn't really watch much DS9.
Picard seemed so cliché.
Janeway was stupid and broke all the rules just to suit herself.
Kirk was a bit too arrogant.
Archer best.

the only interesting things in ds9 happens in the last few series. the rest of it was very much dross.

because it's not normal? :p

I'm glad that I am not the only one that thought this..

As far as I could tell, the making of DS9 was Sisko becoming bald like Picard :) Prior to that, although there were ongoing themes, it was still very much in the style of the trek that went before, to the writers guide, episode by episode. American tv execs at the time, did not believe that the viewing public would accept long story arcs.

voyager never really did it for me, though I liked Janeway as a character, it just didn't click..

never bothered with enterprise..

B5/Firefly for me..

Janeway and Archer had balls.

Janeway rammed Voyager into Red from That 70's Show and would regularly threaten to blow up the ship if things didn't go her way. A captain like that would really keep you on your toes.

Enterprises Xindi arc made Archer desperate and he didn't fanny around to get the job done. Other captains tend to flim-flam a lot to take up screen time.

Obviously Picard.

However....

Duuuuuuuuh, duuuuuuuuh, duuuuuuuuh! Duh duh duh duh duh duh duuuuuuuh duuuuh... dudududuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, dududududuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, dududuuuuuuuuu, duuuuur duuuuuuuuuh!

Voyager has the best theme.

I grew up with TNG so Picard for me.

Voyager is a guilty pleasure, so much cheese, I love Tuvok's woodeness, and 7 of 9's...

DS9 was ok, Sisko was an acquired taste for me

Kirk? Legend

Archer? He was ok, not particularly memorable (T'Pol is the only character that lingers in my brain for some reason).

My problem with the shows after TNG was that they tried to force a sense of camaraderie and sense of family on the characters from episode 1; they didn't let it evolve naturally. Maybe it was because Roddenberry was no longer around - Rick Berman always struck me as more of an accountant than a creative talent. With TNG you can see in the first season that hardly anyone knows anyone else on the ship, and relationships form naturally through the course of the show.

Kirk (Shatner) ---> Picard ---> Kirk (Pine) ---> Janeway ---> Archer ---> Sisko

But the Best Captain of the Enterprise has to be Pike!! (old and New!)

Another vote for Picard from me. Kirk would be second. For the other three, I can't differentiate them - I quite enjoyed DS9, but never really like Sisko.

Sisko purely for the fact that he actually punched "Q"

"You hit me! Picard Never Hit me!:("

"I'm Not Picard!":p

Sisko -> Picard -> Kirk(Pine) -> Kirk(Shatner) -> Archer -> Janeway (I'm sorry but Voyager was awful{except for Seven[She was cool<also Hot!>]})
