Sky to roll out fibre and wifi cloud from April

- Nothing about upstream
- Sky TV is required

I would pay £40 per month for Sky FTTC without the TV requirement.

I wonder what kind of substandard POS router Sky will dish out with their fibre product.

Ohh, turns out our exchange is FTTC enabled!

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 40 Mbps and upstream line speed of 15.7 Mbps.

I'll have some of that!

My exchange has had fibre for around 6-7 months yet my cab doesn't look like being upgraded at all even though i live on a brand new estate!!

This is great news. I won't be getting fibre from BT here until the end of this year at the earliest but then will be a good time to switch from Virgin for the new customer perks.

Will Sky be limited to the same speeds as BT customers?

Are they just using the BT network or actually paying some money to buy into it/spread its tendrils a bit further ?

Sounds good shame my exchange has no date for an upgrade.

Yet 10mins down the road the other exchange is getting it this year, in an area which is mainly Virgin Media users :/

im shocked you cant get virgin where you are if you re in a TF postcode. Shrewsbury is a nightmare, no virgin and we re only just getting FTTC/P. Shocking considering BT have the main HQ for infinity here haha.

I was with Virgin, I got rid of them due to slow speeds at peak times, throttling & the nail in the coffin them wanting me to wait a month for a new modem.

Happy with Sky though :)

Very shocking, My sister lived in Ditherington for a while not far from the main HQ & all she could get was 120kb/s max.

I just dont understand why they dont upgrade all cabs in a fibre area! why put it in a town if not everyone can get it. I understand it comes down to demand as well but if its not available people wont look into it

`My exchange has had FTTC for 2 years but it hasn't made its way down the main road to my junction yet.... Its mind blowing....

VM has a huge strangle hold round here, i guess its just not worth the money... hopefully this SKY announcement will push it to the places it hasn't reached yet.
