Case fan giving up the ghost?

Hi,

Probably a silly question, but one of my larger case fans (120mm I think) has become rather unresponsive as it doesn't come on. The only time I think it comes on is when I manually spin it by hand and then it'll get going. I'm guessing this isn't normal and needs to be replaced, or could it be something else causing this and not be a faulty fan?

Thanks

Does sound like fan controller is on too low. Mine does this sometimes, and I have to give them a little nudge or turn up controller a bit.

Aah. Well if that is the case the I won't have to worry about a new fan. I should be able to find out tonight. As far as I know I don't have any software installed controlling the fans. I had uGuru or whatever it was called installed a while back, but never used it (I don't think it's installed anymore).

Would I be able to access the controls for the fans in the Bios?

If its plugged in to a 3 pin header, then it should run at full speed anyway unless changed via software. If you dont have this, then it does sound like the fan is dying.

I did that a couple of times. No luck. Strangely there were two fans connected to the same molex - I thought that might be the problem, so I tried it by itself, but no go :(

Just ordered and Akasa fan to replace it. Hopefully that will help.

Akasa's are nice fans, which did you get, Viper or Apache?

I was thinkning of an Apache but just went with a standard black one. Nothing too special. Though it's one of the Auto Thermal Fans.

Yea, i was thinking of getting some to replace my Scythe Kaze (thank god they are on a fan controller or I would be deaf!). Vipers would be good on the 5 PWM fan splitter.

I saw that the Apache has a PWM connector. Are there adaptors for these, say if you wanted to connect directly to the PSU and not motherboard?
