So who's getting a 7950 today?

No I didn't think you would. It was a trap, I admit.

But that's pretty much nailed it really.

If your boss said to you tomorrow "Sorry, you need to take a pay cut to keep our clients happy" you'd be super ****ed off.

Money talks.

But if your product that you heavily invested in is not selling as well as you expected and your competitor is about to reduce price on it's current line to undercut you and then release a newer possibly better product what would you do ?

I feel there will be quite a price war between AMD and NVIDIA in the next few months...

I certainly hope so but I'm really not holding my breath.

I hope ATI send You and Dave_beast at least a new keyboard for flying their Flag :D

I maintain, the 7970 at the RRP of £439 sold out everywhere.

I mean look man, let's be honest here. Let's at least say "GOD MSI SUCKS".

Why is AMD copping the blame for the sticker brigade taking the ****?

Ed. Yes there will indeed be a price war. And that's a bloody great thing about having two companies that can stand toe to toe.

So even if you think the AMD cards right now are too expensive, or not fast enough, or whatever, at least try and see the good things going on.

Right now Nvidia are scrambling. As Eddie Murphy said in Trading places... "And they screaming SELL SELL.. They out there, they out there".

So hey, at least AMD have made them think for a bit, and inevitably made the PC gaming market freshen up somewhat.

I hummed and hawed but ended up realising it was gonna be better to try a second 6950 first, so ive gone down that route. If crossfire isnt up to par though ill bin them and give one a go.

Surely you'll lose money if you're only going to try. You're better off making a decision and sticking to it. I'd say crossfire and think about upgrading in a few years.

Well im hopeful obviously that it will be the right decision, I got the second one for a good price though, so wouldnt lose more than £10-15 on the card if its not as expected.

I tried crossfire with 5850's and binned it pretty quick, i thought it was faulty with my setup but I since learned it was just incompatible with the games I was playing at the time. Its the same rig but I do intend on upgrading the rest of the pc in the next few months anyway if its needed.

I could go for another 6970 to crossfire them - but tbh I'd prefer to avoid crossfire is possible, I've also got a fan that dumps heat into my case (custom arctic accelero plus) - so don't think 2 will heat that well.

I'm going to sit & wait - see what NV brings out in the coming months & make a choice there, in total honesty I've had less problems with NV than ATI, so far every single time I've gone for an ATI card I've regretted it.

I remember getting cross-fire 3850's, then finding out that 1 8800 was much better.... GRRRR! (new to building then).

the battlefield 3 stats on an Xfire-SLI review on a well known review site say it all;

7950 Xfire 1600p 28.9 FPS
GTX 580 SLI 1600p 53.6 FPS

I'd be pretty annoyed if I lashed out £700 to get beat by an over a year old pair of cards that can be picked up 2nd hand for well under 300 notes

good old ATI driver support

Not sure why people have such issues with crossfire. I have had 5850 & 6950 crossfire and not had any issues. As long as you keep the profiles up to date it all works lovely.

Because you know what your doing!;)

A lot of people dive in expecting double the frame rate just because they added a second card.

Agreed, I had 8800GT SLi, I've had 4850 Xfire, I've had 5830 xfire for s short period of time, not a single problem and now I've got 6990+6970 soon to be 6990+6990 and I've not had a problem either... strange why it gets slagged off. Seem to scale nicely, run nicely... infact I'm rigid just writing this lol
