Fred the Shred != Sir

Cool, this will fix everything! I'm glad we've punished the man who willfully and singlehandedly caused all the problems in the world right now!

(sarcasm, btw)

Bonuses, boo hoo! The people moaning would probably go crazy with excitement at the mention of a million pound bonus, bloody hypocrits.

There's nothing wrong with a million pound bonus, being paid a million pounds for running your company into the ground is perhaps questionable though.

Almost everything? RBS is owned by the state because it completely ****ed up? The banking industry was insolvent before being bailed out, which is hardly a shining example of the free market.

Everyone falling over themselves to praise the bankers just because it's the opposite of what Stockhausen believes is funny though. You can be right wing and admit the banks are messed up you know.

So you won't admit the bloody good job done to RBS and the millions that the bank is MAKING that goes back into the country? And he shouldn't be rewarded for doing a bloody good job?

I will easily admit that bonuses should only be paid for good performance.

What is wrong with the bankers? RBS guys should have kept their bonus's. Stupid press meddling with things they dont understand and politicians taking up the call to score cheap political points.

+1

People are to stupid though and every thinks they are equal. Becuase of the BS fed to them over the last decade or two.

It isn't up to politicians or us. It's upto the bord of directors. Owning a stake in the company means little if anything, when you're talking bonuses.

But Hester (I assume you're talking about) hasn't run his company into the ground?

For the naysayers, or anyone interested, I'd highly recommend having a read of this from Mark Field MP. Quite sensible in my opinion.

Yeah, you only get £700k and a diamond plated pension for that ;)

If Fred Goodwin is an example of the brightest and best, I'm very relaxed about city firms not being able to attract them.

We don't live in America.

In the UK, we give them the ball. They look after it for us. If we want it back, we just ask and get it, with no charge. If we want to play with it, again, no charge. If we wish to give it to somebody else, they'll personally deliver it for us, with no charge.

Seems like a good deal.

That depends on the ball :p

Stockhausen is the modern day equivalent of that guy that stands on the street shouting at people.

Isn't it about time we banned him?

kind of, but we're actually playing with one of billions of promises to play with the ball, when there aren't even enough balls to go around. All the while they're promising more people a chance to play with the ball and collecting a few more balls from other people, while our promises steadily decrease in value.

Or something like that

Couldn't agree with you more with regards to Fred. I feel that the MP is more getting at the money-generating talent within RBS more than purely referring to the C-level management. I posted it in another thread, but one of RBS' business (and the most profitable business of it's kind globally within investment banking) is being dismantled/shrunk simply because the guys behind it were being paid about 15% of their market worth... and have since picked up their bags and headed off.

As much as I agree with the sentiment that wouldn't be the sensible thing to do. I'm sure he'll get it back 'under the radar' albeit over a longer period. However if he had refused to decline it, it could have actually affected his career.

He's got a 6.4 million one due. That's probably why he gave the other one up. It distracts from his other bonuses and his huge salary (that's worth much more than any bonus)

Alas the tabloid readers will think this is a victory (as will some of the less cerebral members of the Occupy movement) when it is just a PR stunt by the Government to appeal to voters. Doesn't fix any of the rot in the system (banking & government)

Yeah PR stunt. Im sure we all feel better now a guy that most people have no clue was/is is no longer a Knight. Really.

No, we give them the ball, then they lend it to someone else. We ask for it back and we get a different ball. If too many people ask for their balls back at once, they dont have enough balls.

Name one occasion in the last 10 years when somebody has gone to get a ball and been refused because they have run out of balls.

You are free to keep your ball under your bed if you disagree that strongly.

Not really relavant to the points Fox was making though.
