ordered amd 7970 which games to show off

so i get my 7970 on friday and want to really see what all the fuss is about with pc graphics over my xbox 360

This will be my first top end card.

so which games and mods would you go for, i can get any game ;-) and all of them.

ive got BF3
crsysis 1 and 2
dirt 3
rage

ive seen crysis mods on youtube showing high texture packs and mods, but where do i get them, and hows it done???

i never ever play games on my pc, in 8 years ive never had a card good enough, now i want to blow my own mind, so point me in the right direction lads please!!!!
 
added skyrim, its not my thing but il play it anyway


ive had an nvidia 8600GT for 5 years, surely something will look good :eek:


or be better than the xbox.

is BF3 not noticeably better???

I've not played console version but my mates say it doesn't look great, I let some of them see for themselves what it's like on PC and they were seriously impressed.
 
There isn't really any games that will blow your mind but you might want to add GTA4 + mods to your list, with the right mods it can look mighty impressive even compared to titles out in the past year.

A couple of others that stand out

STALKER games + mods
METRO 2033
The Witcher 2

Skyrim looks much better on PC than it does on consoles, especially modded and better mods will be out for it when the toolkit eventually gets released.

Agree with the GTA, there were some images floating about on another thread about Icehunter mod? or something along those lines.

About right really...

You might got some milage out of -

Crysis 1 + MODS
Crysis 2 + DX11 and high res texture pack
Battlefield 3
Metro 2033

Other then this, only thing you could do is get something like Batman Arkham City and whack the res up, apply insane amounts of AA etc and just enjoy gaming at a higher res... Sadly, Batman Arkham City on the PS3 at 720p in a HD TV at a suitable playing distant doesn't look all the much worse then on a PC truth told..

I'm now failing to see the point of these super high power GPU's until a new gen of gaming consoles are with us, as lets face it.... Nearly all AAA tittles are console ports...

Still you'll enjoy solid 60fps gaming with nearly all games at fantastic res, something a console can't do, not that you'd notice with most games..!!
 
Just to endorse some of what others have mentioned :

Stalker games modded, though Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat will look pretty impressive even without these imo. Metro 2033, The Witcher 2, Rage and Crysis will also look superb.

You mention that you have had your pc quite a while, have you upgraded the rest of your rig to go with the nice new card. If not a lot of games might not run so well
