My Biochecm is now sat at 400 with my other skills, and I've only really started to RE stuff now. How does this work? I've re-d the str heavy implant and gotten a blue with a defence stat :/ is the extra stat random, so say if I carry on REing the same green str implant I'll eventully get it to a blue again with a new stat, preferably one useful for DPS. Is that how it works? if so that sucks.

For Biochem implants...

Any green implant will reverse into 1 of 3 newprefixes, which are "Critical", "Redoubt" or "Overkill". You can learn all 3 from the same item, just need to keep reversing. Each of those blues can be reverse engineered into 5 different purple enchants, so 15 total purples you can learn from 1 green item. The prefix stats are below. So if you start with one item that has say 50 cunning, 50 endurance, 20 crit and 20 surge. If you get "Redoubt" version, it'll be the same stats with an extra 29 or so defense. If you get the "Critical" version it'll have 49 ish Critical instead of 20.

Lets say you have the blue "Critical" version of an implant, you can keep reversing that item and eventually you'll learn 1 of 5 different new prefixes which carry a different stat each and the item is now purple.

Redoubt (Defense)
- Anti-Armor (Surge)
- Exactitude (Accuracy)
- General's (Presence)
- Veracity (Shield)

Critical (Critical)
- Endowment (Surge)
- Fervor (Accuracy)
- Leadership (Presence)
- Supremacy (Alacrity)
- Tempest (Shield)

Overkill (Power)
- Commander (Presence)
- Expert (Surge)
- Hawkeye (Accuracy)
- Rampart (Shield)
- Vehemence (Alacrity)

Try and clear your history/cache on your browser,i have to do this nearly every time the website has maintenance, dont ask my why?

For all its starkness, I rather like Hoth. Especially this evening when I finally dinged 40!

All I need to do now is get Ensign Temple in my crew and then I can get back to PvPing my way up to Centurion. Only 9 valour ranks to go... :(

Seeing as I play quite a bit of Hutt Ball it'll be interesting to see what happens with the rebalancing of the Operatives... Though, I'd prefer a nerf to the Inquisitors, as that's all most teams seem to be made up off nowadays.

I am getting sick of this game now. EVERY time there is an update it downloads and then breaks on installation of the new patch.

Probably cancelling this week. Real shame because I do enjoy playing it but I can't be doing with patches screwing me over and not getting play time :(

Never had a problem with any TOR updates.

You could try installing games in C:/users/public instead of Program Files. Maybe you have a problem with file permissions or something.

In what way does it break?

I appreciate the assistance but I have literally tried everything. Different install paths, different drives (SSD and Physical), different PC within the same network. It does the same thing - every time. Downloads patch, gets to about 44% installed and "fails and needs repair". I check the logs and it says corrupt file source or something.

I've tried downloading it without my router in place, with firewalls on and off. Complete uninstalls of the game, reinstalls, removing all registry settings. Absolutley everything.

I'm an enterprise systems administrator and pride myself on having pretty good troubleshooting skills with computers and software. This one has me stumped. I can't be arsed to run the pointless delaying tactics posted in a few help forums on the swtor page. Copy and paste your msinfo32 information, running chkdsk, etc - it's all balls and none of it will help in resolving it.

Nevermind, I'll stuggle on and cope for now but it will probably kill it for me in the end.

I do see your point. I have not seen it on the three systems I've ran this game on. All I can affirm is that it's not 100% down to the game.

If you've tried it on multiple computers and it's broken then perhaps:

- the patches are corrupt on download (modem/router/network issue, can be common on Virgin)
- some common installed software is causing this defect (Anti Virus or even a dodgy MS Hotfix)
- your machines share the same hardware issue (network card, ram, usb cup holder)

Agreed. No one else has had this problem, other than people with bad host files or service files entries in system32/etc. I have checked mine and all is as normal and has been compared against a working machine with no issues.

1) I've tried to eliminate by using cable modem direct rather than router. All F/w's turned off. Can't change my ISP but it could be a VM issue. (Although my friend in the local area has downloaded it to his PC and it worked fine).

2) Could be software issue, I'm running MS Security Essentials. My friend who installed it also has it and no problems there. I'd imagine that if this was a problem more people would see it. I've tried installing and running without the service/real time scan on and it still borks.

3) Machines are different build in terms of mobo, cpu, memory. They only share the same router and ISP connection (w7 x64 O/S). I might bring my work laptop home and try updating on that next time to see if it breaks through the wifi on it too. Could be a VM issue but I'm not convinced, more people would see this other than me surely.

I don't doubt there is an issue my end somewhere, but I'll be damned as to what it is. Both my W7 machines are x64 with all updates from MS for Windows, Office. They are up to date. No unsuaul hotfixes installed other than what is approved by MS though Win udpdate.

It is pointing to a VM issue, it's happened since the Beta days although I did mange to fix a few beta client issues - this problem has been apparent since I have owned the full game.

Here is the log file from opening it to show what happens:

Those patch manifests are signed in some way (verisign cert). Perhaps it is a security settings/certificate/incorrect time and date issue? This would be a stretch though and I doubt it's the case.
Maybe you have a manually generated hosts file? Perhaps you run some weird network config? Again this is a stretch.

To me it looks like it is downloading OK but failing to unpack the zip or access the correct point of the previous .tor.
So yes, it could be a program interfering with your system ram/temp folders at runtime. Or perhaps you don't have the permissions to perform some function.

As you say repair can often fix it. Which could indicate that a process had a file lock on the stuff you were trying to update but the second time round it did not.

Just for your info, I'm on Virgin (20m), have windows 7 x64, all standard MS updates, and running MS security essentials. I have had no issues whatsoever with updating TOR.

I realise this is no help at all, but just thought I should mention it :)

Played through all classes to level 10 so far (bar the Smuggler and Consular (?)), IA and BH story lines are the winners at the moment for me. Really enjoying the game though, surprisingly so, I might add.

Personally, I'm just treating the game like a CO-OP MMO rather than a MMORPG in the old school definition, got some RL friends playing through so we have agreed to have a group session twice a week to hit up the flashpoints and group content, with a solo Char for 'other' whenever we fancy some playtime. Gone are the days of me notching up 4/5 hour grind sesh and finding a Raid Guild.

Same, but 100mb :P.

The game is in no way an MMORPG.
There is too much instancing and you have no actual effect on the landscape or what is going on in areas.
The days of true MMORPG's are behind us at the moment - hopefully something will come along sone day.

Unfortunately I don’t think the old days of MMORPG's being about discovery, teamwork and reward vs risk will never come about again.

In this day and age developers/companies can't or won’t sink £100mill plus on a title that wont be seen as a commercial success in the 1st few months. I would also argue that the playerbase, in the main, doesn't want that anymore. Log on -> theme park ride -> purples -> log off seems to be the general consensus :(

Likewise, except I'm on the Virgin 10MB service and running Vista 64bit. Must confess, having read a thread on the TOR forums last night where a lot of people were experiencing random freezes during the game, it was with reluctance that I booted up and patched my TOR install.

I must have played for a good 2.5 to 3 hours last night and not a single freeze - guess I must just be lucky, although I do keep FRAPS running in the background as described earlier in the thread.

Massively sympathise with those having this issue - it drove me up the wall when it went offline for four hours on Saturday morning, but to be unable to play due to a technical fault that no-one really knows the cause of, and hence the solution to, would be enough to make me stick my fist through the screen :(
