The Sopranos

The West Wing seems like something that would bore me to tears and I don't like 24 and I'm making the assumption that The Wire is quite a similar type of show? :p

the wire is nothing like 24, its the most intelligent TV series ever made, its just incredible. (Although it can be hard to get into at first, but deffo worth sticking with)

The Sopranos is simply the best TV ever made, I have watched it round several times :D

Having watched The Soparnos several times I still cant find anything that is as good, I have tried watching The Wire but just cant get into that. Open to suggestions for what to watch next.

Cheers

^^ Try Sons Of Anarchy.

Just finished The Sopranos last night after being given the boxset for xmas, easily one of, if not the best TV shows I've yet watched. It sounds daft but I'm feeling a real void now it's all over.:( I had a similar feeling when I arrived at the end of Battlestar Galactica and 24, the Yanks really know how to write engaging drama imo, it's quite pathetic what we (the UK) produce in comparison. Eastenders!:eek::(

Up to date with Dexter so not sure what to watch next, apparently Sons Of Anarchy is good and I've seen it described as Sopranos on bikes which is encouraging.

Just bought the brilliant Firefly on blu ray which I'm really looking forward to getting into again having watched the series previously on dodgy download.:o

I watched Season 1 of the Shield last year and enjoyed it, so I'll probably continue with this, the season boxsets are only 5 or 6 quid on Amazon. Also interested in The Wire and The West Wing.

To anyone who hasn't watched The Sopranos and is considering watching it, hesitate no longer! it's a brilliantly written/acted show and has that drug like 'just one more episode' feel to it in droves! I really wish I could wipe my memory and start it all over again, but hey! short of Rohypnol "what you gonna do!":p

Just started S5. This is my second run through (the first was a couple of years ago) and I'm enjoying it as much as the first time.

If you have enjoyed this, you will love The Wire - trust me

I've just finished The Sopranos for the first time, absolutely superb TV.

Huge void at the end like Smit101 said. Watched a couple of episodes per evening over the past few weeks and tonight I'm missing it!

Arguably my favourite TV show ever, up there with The West Wing, with The Shield not far behind.

The West Wing is obviously very different, but is so good, anyone who hasn't seen it should make the effort.
Sons of Anarchy is great, as is Dexter.

Im rewatching it right now :) Up to season 3 (some reason season 2 is so easy to watch for my hatred for Richie)

Never watched the last 6-8 episodes (was watching it with a mate during second year and we never got round to the end) but I'm really keen to see the end properly.

Got a lot of mafia stuff on the go with Broakwalk Empire too :) (and mafia on the pc)

Without doubt the best TV series i have ever seen. Perfectly written and as people have mentioned, i felt lost when i had finished watching the last series :(

On a side note, if anyone goes to New York - make sure you do the Soprano's Tour thats available....i got to go in Badabing and round to lots of other key places that featured regularly in the Sopranos (can't really mention due to the OP not wanting spoliers) - you also get to meet one of the cast! Well worth it!

Just watching these again, have them all on DVD.

Am up to Season 2, cracked up several times to Paulie Walnuts and Junior, they get the best lines. Looking forward to Pine Barrens.

Didn't realise before but the actress who plays Danny in The Shield puts in an appearance in S2 when they are discussing Juniors potential release under house arrest.

Perseverance is key with The Wire. Pretty much everybody who regards it as their favourite TV show will advocate that.
Yep, watched the first 2 or 3 eps on two separate occasions and gave up. Tried one more time and as soon as I'd got through 5 or 6 eps I was hooked.

Charlie Brookers review of The Wire from Screenwipe is pretty bang on IMHO.

Confirmed. The sopranos is great TV. If you haven't watched it you have missed out.

I watched this over the course of the summer last year and really enjoyed it. Excellent TV not just because it was brilliantly written, acted and directed but because of how it was the catalyst for what has effectively become the second golden age of American television.

I'd put it up there beside Breaking Bad as one of the best TV shows ever.

It hasnt been released on bluray yet has it? My googlefu only picked up play who will email youwhen its released? I mean apart from season 1 being released i wanted to confirm.

Imo it has set the standard for all tv shows that followed. its persistance with the number of characters and intergration of scenes and stories sets it apart from a lot of what has been released today, such as breaking bad evrn though i regard it very highly!

Breaking Bad is equally on par with The Sopranos in terms of character complexity. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that Walt is a much more complex character than Tony.

But hey, at the end of the day it's series like this which has given TV an air of legitimacy next to film which it had never had before.

Complexity is different to integration though. I would probably side with you in terms of complexity for Breaking Bad, it is true right from the off its hard to fully understand Walt.

However the vast number of characters and sub plots in The Sopranos makes the way the story builds with its side stories that all piece together brilliant. This was the point I was getting at! Really set the standard imo
