After the DM1 offer code stopped working I looked online for a decent 14" laptop that doesn't cost more than £500... came across one of these: http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/model/LX.RGP02.063 (MODS this is the only Acer website I could find that seemed official but it shows the price too though :( )

I'm thinking of getting one and after a few months buyinf the acer adbatange pack for 3 years extended warranty for £50. I had an Acer Aspire 5920G for 5 years and its still going strong (albeit I installed Windows 7 Pro after a couple of years).

Has anyone got one of these laptops?

I got my wife a 4810 second hand -
I really like the laptop - her specs are a little less then this one. Her's is a 14 inch.
Only issue I have with it is the mouse pad jumps around a bit (well too much) - but Im thinking the previous owners cat pee'd on it or something (ebay ya) ...

anyways - like the timeline series. Nice neat laptop and fairly light, nice keyboard, fairly responsive. Would buy again

Can a Mod please change the title of this thread to ' 13.3 / 14 inch laptop advice"

I'm eyeing up a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Edge E320specced as below for £477.13

Intel Core i3-2330M Processor (2.20GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
13.3" W HD (1366 x 768)LED, VibrantView, Low-light sensitive HD Webcam, Midnight Black (w/o WWAN)
AMD Mobility Radeon HD6630 1GB Switchable Graphics
4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
E320 UltraNav without Fingerprint Reader
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
6 cell Li-Ion Battery 62.4 Whr
Bluetooth 3.0
ThinkPad b/g/n
No WWAN support
1 Year Warranty

The best thing about it is that its an i3, 13.3 inch screen and switchable dedicated graphics. What do you guys think?

There's the L420 for the same price which has a 14" screen and DVD drive, but no dedicated graphics.

have you used a 13.3 screen? I know I was trying to decide between 13 and 14 and while the 13 is a bit more portable I foudn the 14 to have better realistate and not be too small. the 13.3 seemed to small to me.

specs look good - not sure about the onboard graphics question

Went to "that purple shirt wearing shop" and played around with the HP DM1, Thinkpad Edge L520 and a Samsung. The Thinkpad is very nice indeed. Don't know why people complain about the build quality, it was very nice to me. Solid structure, matt finish and the screen is OK but I felt it was poorly lit compared to the DM1.

I'm leaning more and more towards the ThinkPad L420 for £461.51 :) One feature I really liked is that you can scroll by either using the right hand side of the touchpad, or gesturing with a two finger slide. I know it's a small detail but it shows Levovo thought more about the end user. The only reason I'm not getting the TimelineX is that it has a built in battery, for a laptop that's just plain stupid imo.

My Edge E520 has been dispatched.. from China!? I thought the 2 - 3 week ETA was because it's custom built from the UK. Now I gotta wait another 4 -6 working days for it to get here.
