iPhone 4S Charging

That is completely false.

Older devices such as my iPod 3rd Gen use Firewire which is 12V on different dock connector pins to the more modern USB charging devices on 5V.

Hence the "charging is not supported with this accessory" message.

Of course older devices won't charge with newer hardware, if the voltage is different :rolleyes:

Maybe I should have been clearer, but when I said iDevices, I meant only iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads only, as you can't jailbreak the older iPods or the "Classic" :rolleyes:

No need for the rolleyes.

Voltage is irrelevant, as previously stated the earlier FW and later USB devices charge off different pins in the dock connector. You get the message in the OP if the charging accessory is trying to use the Firewire pins on a USB charge device. It's quite common with accessories that were designed pre-iPhone.
