Because there nothing out atm that tempting me to change it, AMD new cards ie 7950, 7970 do look good but for the price AMD asking no way.

Personally in all the time i've had my 480 which is a long time now, just don't see any reason to upgrade it, as were not getting the games that push new card's like we once did, so no incentive to upgrade, benchmarks score don't intrest me anymore & haven't done for a few years.

Tbh i don't think i'll be intrested in the GTX 680 when that comes along as that proberly gonna be over £400 on launch aswell, & what the point really spending £400 on something that i personally will see no gains from when all the games i play all run well over 60fps anyroads.

The only time we see any major improvement in pushing cards is when that Xbox 720 comes out next year.

So for this year at least i'll be keeping hold of what i currently got now, anybody else think the same as i do.

The 480 is still one of the best GPUs out to buy at this current day IMO. Despite it being power hungry and run hot, once you overclock it its on par with a GTX 580.

The running hot issue could be patched with a waterblock mind :)

Totally agree with the OP. Too pricey for not enough performance gains imho considering the nothing really pushes the previous gen cards. My unlocked 6950 will do me fine for while longer.

Well im running a custom cooler on mine had done since buying it, runs cooler than the GTX580 and virtually no noise aswell. :D

Same, my 480's plays bf3 with every setting maxxed at a steady 60fps with vsync on. Can't really ask for more. Granted they are on water but 900mhz overclock is plenty :D

I have got the upgrade bug though and most on this forum suffer with it :D

So far I have been disappointed by the "next gen" cards, I expected a bigger jump in performance with the move to 28nm.

im in the same boat really . i was going to xfire but i would need a new psu maybe . i only game at 1080 so the games i play atm are fine with my card@950/1200 . i think ill sit tight for another year or so unless a bargain pops up .
cheers

hhhmmm.yes my gtx470 sli's are more than enough and will be for quite a while me thinks.better to spend on a 120hz monitor for gaming orgasms

The GTX480 is a great card. It has taken AMD the best part of two years to beat it, and it still plays every game comfortably at decent settings. I won't be upgrading my 580 until something significantly better is available.

Buying a GTX 480 for 194.99 from here a year ago was one of the best hardware purchases I have ever made :D

As above, I really couldn't say no to what was roughly less than half the usual price. Bargain, very quiet and excellent peformance made it more than a good deal.

Get a better screen and you'll soon want a better graphics card.

An overclocked GTX580 isn't powerful enough for 2560x1440 in some things - in others, it's wonderful.

Battlefield 3, the latest Shogun, Metro 2033 don't run on full settings at 2560x1440.

You'll also struggle with eyefinity.

Depends entirely on what you want - I, for one, can't wait til Kepler arrives :)

If a card has enough vram to handle BF3 and is capable of providing a min FPS of more than 26 then there's absolutely no reason to replace it.
