Hi,

I just recently bought the tyranosaur 9400i and was thinking about overclocking the graphics card (only slightly - nothing too extreme) As I haven't really been a big PC gamer for some time I'm quite new to the whole overclocking scene.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good overclock for this card knowing the system that I have. I am aware that I should really experiment to find the best overclocking settings, and I downloaded Nvidia Inspector tool and FurMark stress testing utility to do just that. Testing on Furmark for around 5 mins my temp leveled off around the 70deg mark getting to 73deg tops. Although I think if I ran the test longer it might have climbed a little more.

As i only recently bought my system and do not have that much experience in overclocking I was wondering if anyone who has the same system as me (or you guys that build and overclock these system everyday) would recomend for a moderate overclock (as I'd never be happy trying to push it to the limit)

Sorry if this post is a little drawn out and/or redundant, but if anyone could help out a overclocking newb trying to play it safe thanks in advance :)

After a little more research I've overclocked to:

Core Voltage(Mv)=1050
Core Clock(MHz)=870
Shader Clock(Mhz)=1740
Memory Clock(MHz)=2010

Im idling around 32deg and Pushing 80deg stress testing.

I think thats pretty safe, any suggestions from the more experienced would be greatly appriecated.

PS how do I get NVIDA Inspector to keep the overclock settings on reboot?

Use MSI Afterburner - it's a better tool than inspector and it's easy to get it to hold clocks.

870 core sounds reasonable on stock cooler... see my sig for what I've been able to manage, but that's with MSIs cooler.

yeah I think thats as high as im gonna go, i think nvidia inspector is holding the overclock now, but if it doesn't ill check out afterburner.

what do you think a safe value is for the memory overclock? ive only slightly increased it atm (bearing in mind stock cooler)

It depends on the chips used and I've no idea what they'll be on your OEM 580.

Best place to find that answer will be good - see what reference cards are getting.

I searched for overclocks of my specific 580 and used them as a baseline... seem to have been able to push a bit further than the average of 930/940 :)

For anyone that might find this thread in the same situation as me that overclock caused random crashes on bf3 had to go down to:

Core Voltage(Mv)=1050
Core Clock(MHz)=850
Shader Clock(Mhz)=1700
Memory Clock(MHz)=2010

Hasn't crashed since.
