Any and all advise is welcome.

No advice but....that garage is just around the corner from me. I hear those Scoobys leaving the village quite regularly. :D

Just check the insurance if you haven't already - most companies still put a hefty premium onto any scoob, especially if you don't have a history of relatively quick cars.

Aside from that I would say buy a standard one or something that's got the factory prodrive stuff on and go for it, if you can manage to convince someone who has owned one in the past to go look with you then that'd be a major bonus. I'd go visit the owners club and see who is nearby.

£900 per year for me and my g/f fully comp with £250 excess. Which aint going to break the bank.

I have a MY00 Classic shape with prodrive extras, owned it over 2 years now and its been spot on. Servicing is every 6k miles/6months and run it on Vpower or Tesco99 unless its been mapped for 95 fuel.

I wouldnt touch that one unless its had a remap (1998models are not easy to remap) I would also lose the dump valve and fit a panel filter/airbox as they they wont be doing it any favours.

Make sure you check the rear arches both inside the boot and under the arch as they are a moisture trap and unless looked after rust will set in.

For a start its not a 1998 Impreza STI

1998 would make it V4 - that at best is V3.

In fact the engine looks even older - V2 maybe. The induction system looks like V2 or below. V3 onwards the air intake goes under the inlet manifold. That engine the air intake is behind the inlet manifold.

V2 STI

See the difference?

Its also got the previous dash (classics had 2) and the dash was changed on V4.

If its got a 1998 plate its been registered wrong with DVLA. I've seen 1998 Nissan GTIR which was actually built in 1993 so it does happen.

Far better examples out there than that IMO.

PS - you would probably be better off joining scoobynet and posting in General what your budget is and what you are after. You'll get good advice. See you there :)

Still wouldnt touch it, looks like too many 'stuck on' mods with no mention of a remap and engine bay looks tired. Better examples out there :)
