Just wondering what the difference is between expensive branded RAM and cheap non-branded RAM if they both have same spec? What do you get for the extra money?

If it's nothing serious then I could save myself £30!

Extra money gets you a brand name equalling in better reliability.

I use Corsair Value RAM DDR3 1333mhz and never happier.

The cheapest DDR3 1333mhz on OcUK and it has never screwed up on me.

I have also added my own heatsinks and they are cooler than ever.

Here is my memory.

As above, the difference is reliability and a good RMA procedure - hence why going for RAM from a respected RAM company like Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, Patriot etc. is well worth it.

However, these companies sell cheaper and mid-range RAM kits that perform very similarly to their much more expensive high-end RAM kits. These low/mid-range branded kits are the ones to go for - they give you all the performance you need at a price much lower than the high-end kits. For these high end kits you are mainly paying for a big, unnecessary and restricting heatsink, loads of branding and a very small real-world performance increase.

For example, if you are looking for a 8GB today for a sandy bridge system, I would go with this kit or this kit.

This article demonstrates the real-world performance difference between different frequencies/latencies of DDR3 RAM in a sandy bridge system.

The G-skills red kit was a bargain when i bought it, £40 for 8GB from a brilliant brand? cant say any better than that! I now have crucial tactical tracer! brilliant for the price also.
