New toy

Simon, what remap have you got? Is it worth getting one done? I have got the urge to put a loud exhaust on and remap mine. I'm a bit sad that the fly by wire cars can't be supercharged :(.

I much prefer the look of the later models. I looked at a few early and late models side by side and the updated headlights, led tail lights etc just seem to lift the car if you know what I mean.
Like you say, it's only 3k ish more than a tidy rev2 that's been looked after and, as Sin says, I can get the geo done soon and if it's seized I can just go straight to Honda and demand it be fixed under warranty. That's 1k saving right there.

At the end of the day, it's a toy for me. It was the right model, in the right colour at the right price. Can't say fairer than that.

I wasn't planning on buying just yet but the deal offered ticked the right boxes in my mind so I figured; what the heck.

Looks good Rilot.

Read your thread in GD, hope things get sorted out mate.

Mines not remapped. Infact the engine is completely standard

9200 rpm and 260 horses sounds more than standard...?

It was modified with exhaust system and decat and some thin oil :p

9200rpm is the rev limit on mine as it's an early one, although a lot of informations does suggest a 9000rpm limit

You got 260bhp at 90 odd K on the clock also didn't you? no ponies escaping there ;)

I remember before I bought an S2000 reading a thread on S2KI about a guy who owned one who had just had engine failure.

He bought the car from new, and at 20k miles fitted nitrous. At 50k he removed that kit and fitted a supercharger kit, running just shy of 400bhp. At 180k miles the engine let go. It had dropped a valve from a cracked retained due to him over revving it a few months previous on a downshift.

So, 180k miles, with plenty of mods, and engine failure caused by driver error. Not too shabby for 120+BHP per litre in stock form.

Well that solves one of life's little mysteries! I had been wondering about that.

Stories of insane reliability make me love these more and more!

Engine reliability sure, but suspension wise not so much. I am under the impression they are just over £1k to put back to standard once they seize.

Suspension is such a critical and often overlooked part of a car, S2000 is no different. A grand to 'fix' is not a bad cost IMO, my DC2 cost a nudge over 1k in just parts to be fixed suspension wise.

What are these like on the motorway? Is it something you could live with for 25k miles a year?

What sort of mpg?

The only need unseizing if they need adjusting. If they are stuck in standard positions then you don't need to fix it.

I'm going to get the geo done on mine and pay them to grease all the bolts. Hopefully that will prevent an expensive bill later on.
