Am looking to order some Banana Plugs for connecting my speaker wires to my AV amp..

What Banana Plugs do you guys use and would you recommend just buying the cheapest ones or is it worth forking out for better ones ?

I bought the last lot I have off the auction site, not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

TBH I'd spend on banana plugs relative to what the Hi-fi/Home cinema setup is worth, they say you should spend 10% of what your setup is worth on accessories.

I've just bought some Nakamichi ones off the famous auction site, to replace an older set which had poor cable securing. The Nakamichi's are very good.

I've got a set of Fisual as well ones, which I use with a different set of speakers. They are similar to the Nakamichi's, with the outer casing removed, but the plug is slightly thinner. On one set of speakers, I found the Nakamichi's would not fit, without forcing them in. The fisual ones are a better fit.

Nakamichi as above. Reasonably priced and good quality. It's only for ease/appearance, so no need to go mad. If anything, banana plugs will worsen the connection as they add another link to the chain :p

Thanks...........

It only for ease of being able to unplug/replug everything without having the hassle of being in some crazy bent over backwards postions behind the AV stand trying stick loads of wires in tinys holes you can't even see

EEK if that 10% includes the price of AVR, Plasma, Speakers, HTPC, SKY HD box, PS3, DVD-Recorder,etc

10% would be somewhere around £700

Er hang on, that quote was from various hi-fi mags way back in the late 80's. What I should've said is 10% of the audio setup, not all of the Home Cinema. that would include the speaker cable & interconnects as well. :D

I just got some of those "screw-top" ones from ******s (the big overpriced electronics chain). They are fairly stiff to push in which is exactly what you want from a banana plug. They are expensive for what they are (a little chunk of metal) but no where near £700!!!

Been using some IXOS banana plugs for years. I think they are the XS206 ones, not 100% sure as they were bundled with the amp and speakers when I bought them as a freebie.

I have a fairly low-end setup but can't fault the plugs at all! Solid, appear to make a good connection

No worrys........

I also heard of that 10% quote many times before..
And they do normally quote spenting 10% on cables from the cost of the whole AV setup

not just cables, its the accessories as well, good cable can be expensive per the meter, then connections, splitters and even as far as speaker stands can be classed as accessories as not everyone uses them :)

i think 10% is more of a guideline thou

I really wouldn't bother unless you are into dismantling your kit and moving it around every weekend they seem like a total waste of money to me. If I ran a hi-fi shop I'd use them as for equipment demos they make great sense but at home I haven't dismantled my stereo kit in about 5 years and my home cinema hasn't been unplugged in overa year since installation.
