Kwik Fit charging £200 for new discs and pads on a mini. Sound about right?

My GF has taken her Mini into Kwik Fit of all places for a service. She has just come up stairs and told me they have said she needs new discs and pads on the brakes. She agreed the work before talking to me and has just told me it will cost £200. Now I have no idea how much these things cost, but my natural suspicion tells me that Kwik Fit will be ripping her off. Anyone got a general idea on how much these parts plus labour should cost?

Sounds bloody expensive to me.

Rear set of discs and pads on the rear of my car costs around £35-£40.

Are we talking a complete set around the whole car?

Just called them, they say its the rears and the discs are corroded and pads will need changing. They havnt started the work on this yet. What exactly should I look for to make sure the brakes actually need changing?

I've told them not to do it. No chance of me doing it (I have literally no tools and and gf doesn't feel comfortable with me looking at it). They also wanted to charge £20 for new windscreen wipers. Told them not to do that, I'm guessing I can fit better ones myself from Halfords.

I'd say if it was all 4 corners, it doesn't sound too bad. For just the rears it does seem expensive.

My car is booked into a BMW Main Dealer for rear discs and pads in a weeks time. For less than Kwik Fit are charging.

Ripoff.

Christ, my face was tripping me yesterday because I had to fork out £50 in labour to have my fronts replaced. Couldn't get a couple of the corroded securing bolts out myself so I had to hand all my parts and car to the local garage!

£200 seems ridiculous.

Even buying them from eBay at £40. Additional labour costs surely won't be £160. Nobody you know who could do the job?

Price aside, do you really feel comfortable letting someone from KwikFit sort your brakes out. I would never let them touch my car full stop.

Battery for my car costs £64, I only bring this up as its a completely different car and therefore a price comparison is completely pointless.

I would have expected around £160 myself including a new sensor wire and depending on the year/model may require telling the diagnostics to reset the brake warning.
