Hey guys...

Already had one canon 50mm f1.8 lens get stuck on my camera, and had to break it off the camera, risking the camera, to get it off... Anyway, its time for a replacement..

What alternatives for not too much more, is there to this lens that has a metal mount?

Canon 50mm Mk. I has a metal mount, but they do cost a little extra. For ~£70 your only option really is another 50mm 1.8 Mk. II.

As above for the £100 mark you aren't going to get anything else. I used an OM 50mm f1.8 with a AF confirm adapter from the bay (£10 adapter, £30 lens) before I got my canon 50 1.8 and it worked pretty well. Metal mount too :)

How did the lens get stuck originally? Was it due to a bad copy of the lens getting nudged accidentally causing it to get stuck?

Dropped it from about 2 feet, and then it just wouldnt twist off all the way... i froced it off, with the logic that the plastic would break before the metal on the camera. Im just worried that if it is this flimsy then this will happen again.

EDIT: With both lens caps on!

You'd be lucky to get either for £250, especially the Sigma. Currently after either, trying to shift my Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 to fund it.

As above just get another one and dont drop it, in a way the flimsy design of the nifty fifty probably saved your camera as if you had a more robust lens on there during the drop, it would probably be more than just a broken, cheap lens...
